Here's the deal. I just rebuilt the engine in my 90 laser, and it won't idle. If I continually blip the throttle, it will halfway run. If I unplug the maf, it will start right up, but idles around 3k or more. The tach doesn't work so I'm not sure. I'm leaning forwards an intake manifold leak, but any additional input is much appreciated

If you just rebuilt the engine. Check around for major boost leaks somewhere. Maybe you pinched a vacc line or something easy. Start with boost leaks and work your way from there.

Is the IAC motor working (or plugged in, LOL). Mine in my 90 Talon went belly up and it will idle but when I first start it I also have to work the throttle for a bit but according to my LC2 it is running too lean. I just purchased a used IAC off of the classifieds on here from the member that is crushing 17 DSM's real soon. Just a thought for you before some good used parts are gone forever. It hasn't come in yet but should be very soon. My idle goes from 800- 1500 then 700-1500 and so on..... Sometimes it dies because the idle goes to low for it to catch back up. If it was working before it really should still be working but since this kinda resembles my problem I thought I would throw this out there. MTC

A leaking throttle body seal for sure. I can completely close off the throttle body and it still runs with the maf unplugged, but not idled so high. I think this is my problem

OK I had a leak but its fixed. It still will not run with the maf plugged in. Any ideas?

Do a BLT first. If your having a hard time finding it (cause im sure there is) have a friend help you idle it while you spray carb cleaner or ether around all vacuum lines and gaskets. TB shaft seals can cause real problems, do your BLT and with the system under pressure move the TB by hand and if those seals are out you'll hear hissing there for sure. Boost leaks are a pain, GOOD LUCK!!!

Check TB plate position, also is your FIAV blocked off correctly (was my issue I found while fighting idle issues for over a month), check vacuum lines, etc. Use a voltmeter and check your TPS / Idle Switch

Are you 100% sure the mechanical timing is at TDC? If the timing is off, it could result in the MAF not working properly or throwing it out of wack just the slightest.

Yea I got it figured out. Bad mas, and the tbody gasket was on wrong, causing it to leak past the biss. Couldn't get any idle control. This car has been a motherfff. Bought it in pieces, but I drove it for the first time tonight

glad you got the issue figured out, look in to getting link, that will make these little issues much easier to find, trust me, link pays for itself over and over.
