I have a turboed 420a and the car ran beautiful for over a year. I let the car sit for a couple of weeks. I drove it to work and it ran fine. I was on my way back home when the car would stall instantly. No hiccups or surging. Just as if you were to turn the key off. I did let the gas tank get close to empty a few times. Anyways, as I press the gas pedal, the car leans out to 17. My fuel pressure gauge shows me that it is in the give or take 40 psi. I am puzzled to why my car is doing this. Do you guys think the fuel pump is shot? I also noticed that the relay for the fuel pump clicks all the time. However, the pump does not prime at times. The car idles just fine. Giving it RPMS will cause it to lean out. I do not see any issues with my tune. Or could it be that the pump is shot and when I increase the gas pedal it starts to choke up? Any sense of direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Yeah they can go out for sure. You should be able to hear the pump come on when you turn the key over without starting. Also check the voltage on the pump to make sure it's not the relay going bad.

I'd start by checking voltages too. A clicking relay isn't necessarily a working relay.

I one time clogged all my injectors when I ran out of fuel. Had a Wally in the car for 3 years. I guess the fuel that I used dissolved the filter, so the car sucked all the dirt from the bottom of the tank..... I was lean and misfiring a little...turn the key ON . If you should hear the pump.... If not check the voltage at the pump connector.... If the volts are there check pump ground..... Pumps do get really hot and can burn easily when you ride on fumes. Also make sure the fpr gauge is good they do f... Up sometimes. You can also take out the pump and give it twelve volts see if it pumps( don't put it in water or fuel) you can use coolant. If pump works fine, it has to be wiring, relays, grounds, Fpr, or clogged system.... Also bad gas( low octane) Good luck

Thanks guys for the information. I swapped out the fuel pump. The car now starts and even runs. No more stalling. However, when the car idles it is from 14.-17. When WOT it is no lower than 13. IMO I think that is not good LOL. The car starts to heat up. I burned the tune to the ecu thinking that it could be a corrupt file or something. So, how would I check the fuel pressure regulator (gauge says its holding pressure), injectors or the pump?

Connect a fuel pressure tester, see if the readings are the same us the one on fpr gauge. If both show the same pressure your fpr is fine. If the car is running lean all the time, temp will rise. If the car is not misfiring injectors are not the issue, this time. But if you want take noid ligt and connect to each individual injector, crank car and you should see it flashing. Also use a stethoscope to listen if they click when car is running. If you think they are clogged you can always flow test then..... As far us the pump goes I explained that before.... Check voltage to the connector..... Check grounds...... If you want take it out and give it 12 volts submerge in coolant and look at the fountain, check lines for leaked or bent seactions.... But that is also useless in your case. Just doing a FPT will rule out your pump problem.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I am going to tinker with it this weekend. I will do exactly what you say and will post the results. So the fuel pump needs to have over 12 volts? When I use the stethoscope am just hearing clicking sounds?

If they click they work, unless one off them has a faulty control valve that is stuck open( not your case again.) it would run rich and most likely flood and misfire. Given 12 volts from battery will make the pump engage if that's what you want... I think the issue here is your tune, not fuel source. Car is running, means pump is getting current , good pressure means pump is fine, injector pulse means they are doing what the supposed to. If your car dosent misfire when it idles/runs, the only fuel related problem that I can think off is loose ground to the pump housing or bad or faulty electrical connection/relay/connector/wire. I'm only talking fuel related now....

Just because the fuel pump is putting out idle pressure doesn't mean that its a good pump. Depending on your fuel setup for boost your fuel pressure can get over 110psi. It also could very well be a vac leak on your fuel pressure regulator causing it to one read a lower vac signal or a bad regulator not increasing fuel pressure per lbs of boost like it meant to. Does the AFR lean out when you press the gas but stay OUT of boost? What type of fuel/spark management do you have? There are a number of things that it could be but we need to know a few more details before. Like Paul said also, "a clicking relay doesn't mean its a good relay".
