So, i just replaced my front and rear struts swell as springs. I went and bought all 4 KYB Gr-2 struts and i bought 4 Megan Racing lowering springs to go with them. The ride is a little nicer but my car still goes "BANG' on bumps that are not even that big. Has anyone had this problem? strut mounts maybe? my front drivers side does it and my rear passenger does it the worst.:ohdamn:

It could be a handful of things. Did you replace the strut mounts when you replaced the struts and springs? There's also sway bushings, end links, control arm bushings, and ball joints to consider.

I'm with this guy. Pop the hood, bounce the crap out for the front of the car, and look for wobble. (unless it's coming from out back)

Double check to make sure you tightened the strut up enough (the big bolt on the top of the strut) I just helped a friend replace the struts in his girls cobalt and we didn't get the strut nut tight enough so it was banging when we hit bumps. Took the impact hit the top of both struts again and it was golden after that.

Replace the strut tower mounts soon. I just caught mine in time. If you let it go too long, the washer that stops the strut from popping out will bend too much and possibly fail.

Also, depending on the sound of the bang, how loud it is and all, check the height of the rubber stoppers for the hood.

Did you put the assembly together correctly? Sounds dumb but it happened to me a very long time ago. I needed two washers on my rear struts on my rubber bump stop I believe. I can't remember exactly where I put them but I was driving and whenever I would hit a bump, it sounded like a huge bang. I watched my rear struts and the stud of the strut popped up through the back where you would tighten them. I wish I could remember where I put the washers on the strut assembly, but i went to lowes and bought two grade 8 washers and my problem was fixed.

Yeah I got them in right with new washers/bumpstops etc. I did the same thing actually before I bought new bumpstops and washers LOL. What a hell of a noise when those struts are poking into the hatch.

My strut nut is not getting any tighter I got it tightened up enough and now the nut will just sit there and spin without getting tighter. It is not stripped either I checked and it comes off with ease. It just wont get tighter than 5-6 threads down the rod. I impacted it with a 19v Craftmen impact gun. Maybe I need to take an air gun to it and give it the business? :hellyeah:

I got my new strut mount plates coming in the mail. hopefully that will fix it in the front. I hunted for them and finally found them on summit racing. As for the rears go, I can't find rear strut mount plates for the life of me. If anyone knows where I can get my hands on some would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also I am new to posting on forums so I apologize if my replies are messy and out of order im still learning the whole "posting" part of the forum

Definetly double check your ball joints and sway bar end links.. i had the worst clunking after i replaced both my balljoints and ended up being a bad balljoint and well the sway bar link was bad too but i replaced them and now its quiet! Good luck

What do you mean it's not getting any tighter? There is a torque spec for it. It's called the "strug top end nut" and the spec is 43-51 lbs. It shouldn't just keep spinning. If you can't torque it properly, something is wrong.

If the nut is spinning but it's not moving up or down the threads, you've got a big problem.

Others are giving you good hints on the struts, so I'll expand on slammed608 comments.

Grab the swaybar links and see if you can wiggle them by hand. You shouldn't be able to move them at all. If you can twist/rotate the socket around the mount balls by hand they are worn out.

Look at the swaybar mounts to see if they are dead.

Hey fellas I'm having a similar issue. I just installed KYB AGX struts and Eibach sport lines. While installed the rear strut and springs I noticed after I got everything mounted I was able to move the spring aroung slightly with a little force. Unable to figure it out, I assumed once I mounted the strut to the tower via the two bolts it would hold the spring in place.

Needless to say, that did not happen. I got down the street when the back struts began to rattle, I looked back and saw the top of the strut(where the center bolt is) moving up and down with dips in the road.

I followed references from a few different threads, as well as the instructions that came with the struts.

When I tightened the center nut at a certain point it would just spin the entire strut rod. I held the top of it with vice grips to tighten down all the way.
If I could get some input on what I did wrong, what exactly is happening and what I need to do to fix it I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi guys,

codym did you solve your problem?

I installed Kayaba AGX in combination with H&R lowering springs (45mm/45mm) on my FWD Eclipse.
Like these: http://www.ebay.de/itm/H-R-Federn-4...0-D22A-Tieferlegung-Sportfedern-/190661527538

No problem on the front, but the rear ones have not enough pretension.
I don´t know why and this was the first time I tried the combo KYB AGX + H&R.

That´s how it looks like:

Of course that leads to noise during I drive over bumps in the road.

Is there anyone with the same spec out there or experiences about my issue?

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you

My solution:

Hi,

after a few months I have enough pretension on my lowering springs!

At first I had the idea to tap to head:
But after more and more brainstorming I recognized that this won´t work, because of this "stopper":

Now I reinstalled the original springs.
Yes they had not enough pretension, too:hmm:

After I told that situation to my father who is a mechanic for more than 50 years he came up with the situation-saving idea:

...to cut this center bushing.

Now we were able to set the screw nut more tight which leeds to more pressure to the springs.

Maybe this can help anybody

Thank you

Regards
