Hey everyone.

I'm Dustin- recently bought a bone stock '96 GST, did some lurking, and dealt with the small issues that it had when I first purchased it. This being my first foray into the wonderful world of imports, I suppose it will be interesting.

Here's a terrible picture:

(That isn't me)

So far, I've just installed a set of 18" takeoffs from an '09 Eclipse GT (Sword Silver) and did a 2GB conversion on the front end (bezels will be installed once my car is freed from its icy prison), since the original bumper was all sorts of screwed up. Stock ride height is too low in this area. I have a 3" Megan catback on backorder.

For a bit of background on myself, I'm a 24-year-old college student from Southern Ohio with way too much time on his hands. 5-year Marine Corps vet, former Airframe mechanic on the F/A-18 and F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter) multirole platforms. I've had domestics since I was old enough to drive. Most notably an '03 Lightning that ended up being the slowest 8mpg hunk of junk in Southern Maryland after dumping 15 grand under the hood. My other current car is a '67 Mercury Cougar. Bought recently as the most solid restoration candidate I've ever seen.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to interacting with you guys in the future!

Welcome.

Looks like your on the fast track with cleaning her up. So whats your plan with her?

There's a few things yet-
Windows are being tinted friday afternoon
Still need to find a passenger side fender cap. I'm not convinced that they actually exist.

Beyond the simple stuff, the first thing is going to be getting the transmission to a point where I'm comfortable throwing a little power at the car. I want to convert to a ratchet shifter, primarily so I don't feel like I'm jerking off a horse every time I want to shift out of park, but also just for fun. I've been talking with Spultronix about doing a digital readout for the currently selected gear to be mounted in place of the center vents.

Engine wise, I'm going the evo3 direction later on. My girlfriend's sister is currently stationed in Korea, so I've got her trying to source an evo3 IM. Since I don't know anyone in Japan right now, I figured I may as well track one down while its still easy.

I was right when I said fast track. LOL

You could message stangmurdera at miller import parts. DSM Forums - View Profile: Stangmurdera He might be able to help with the cap. I have a set of twisties that I'm hording. I need a driver cap for another car.
You can still get them brand new as well. Last I looked them up they were about $50-60 for a cap.

You might be surprised what all these cars will hold up to with stock pieces and a 100k on the clock. If it shifts good now just rock it. Change the fluids and go.

Good plan with the korea contact for an IM. Cheap shipping too, APO.

hey if your like me youll start buying aftermarket parts well before your ready, and then end up spending the next 5-7 years fixing it up before you can get on to real power...Bought my car in 2006 Im barely just now beginning to think about tuning still have a few things left to do maintenance wise.

I actually got my headlights from him. I'll probably call him about it here before too awful long. I put an OE cap on order from mitsubishipartswarehouse (?) and they came back telling me it was out of production unfortunately.

I can't believe I spent two years in mainland Japan and didn't send anything notable home. Too busy getting drunk. Seriously considering flying back within the next couple of years to ship crap home via FPO and tour Iwakuni now that its been supposedly revamped. If nothing else, I am planning to fly out in 2020 to bring an R33 GTR home.

It would never hurt to bring a gtr back LOL. If you manage to bring more than one, Im sure plenty of us would like to stay in touch with you. Welcome to the forum though, hope you enjoy your dsm.
