Ok I am stuck at yet another point. I live inner city with no driveway, and my garage is constantly occupied so my neighbor let me park her car in her gravel lot to while I work on it. I am taking the engine out in pieces, due to not having garage and a engine hoist (nor the room to use one) My plan was to slide the trans over and lift the block out then pull the trans out. The trans is separated, but not enough that I can lift the motor out. I spent all morning before work twisting, jacking up and lowering, taking off parts for clearance, but the trans wont slide back enough to clear the block. I seen plenty of youtube videos and it seems no one else had problems sliding the trans over for clutch changes ect. My passenger side axle is still in the trans, I cant get it to pop out. Its disconnected from the hub so I figured I could pull the trans with it on, but my neighbor sold the house and I need the car moved by next Friday. So its either I get the engine out, or reconnect everything to move the car, and I really dont want to back track

You need to remove the transfer case and drive shaft and get them out of the way. Then you need both axles removed get a large pry bar and while you pry on the inner cup turn the axle till you find the sweet spot. There's always one spot that will let you pop the axle out easier! Next make sure everything is disconnected from the trans, don't forget the bolts on bottom and you might wanna remove the speed sensor. Then the make sure the car is high enough on the jack stands to get the trans out with a jack. You should have just enough room to move the trans back on drop it out the bottom. I've done it this way hundreds of times! Also make sure your short block is supported good. Then call a buddy and have him help you lift it out or out the bottom what ever seems easier. It won't be to heavy since you have it stripped down. I can pull a short block and trans by myself if needed but a friend is always nice to have help LOL!

I took the trans out first when taking my engine out. made it pretty easy. It looks like you have almost everything disconnected from the trans that I would try to put a jack under the trans and lower the trans out of the way while a friend guides it since you don't have an engine hoist. There's only a couple of things that you might have left to disconnect from the trans like the support bar underneath it along with that 5 bolt support plate behind the engine compartment (that doesn't look like it gets in the way but it does) and any cables lines running to it. That would be the best way in my opinion. Two people can lift the block but that's and awkward position you'll be having to lift from. It's still cast iron and heavy, probably weighs in at 100 lbs. Doesn't sound like much but it's just hard to handle.

From the pic, you've got an auto trans. The converter looks like it's still attached to the crank. Separate that and the converter should push into the bellhousing and the engine should have plenty of room to lift straight up.

ok yes its an auto, I didnt know I had to take off those bolts to get it out, thanks for the info

so remove the flex plate bolts and that bottom beam and It should come out?

Yes.. you have to remove the tq conv and the trans as one. You might have to rotate the flywheel to get to all the bolts

you should clean the outside of your transmission, and engine with purple power it makes life easier, totally wear gloves on this build you don't want to get blood poisoning.

Already planned I am not putting them back in greasy LOL. and it outside in the chicago cold gloves are definitely needed

how do I keep everything from rotating when I got to remove the bolts? everything from the trans to the engine moves

I got three of the 4 off, I cant get the 4th out, there was nothing to jam against to losen it

got to motor out today thanks guys, I didnt know the torque converter and flex plate were attached thought it slide out like a 5speed

Inspect your converter for damage if the engine has been hanging on the stater or you have been using pry bars before you took the bolts out you could of damaged it. Better Safe than sorry.

Make sure you push the trans back up to the block before you start turning the torque converter. Otherwise you're going to go through hell getting the converter to slip back onto the shaft.

You make a very simple task seem like it is very hard. Installing a converter is probably one of the easiest things that can be done. Takes literally 30 seconds at the most.
