Looking to purchase a set of coilovers for my talon. I dont want a cheap kit that will destroy my suspension in a year, something that will last, something with alot of drop. Hopefully around the 800$ range.....Any suggestions?

You know whats more annoying than the same old questions asked 100x? The stupid, unhelpful comments people have to respond to them with.

Most of the experts on here seem to agree that you are better off with a set of Koni Yellow and Groundcontrols than you are with any coilover system under $2500. This will run you about $1300? The extra money is worth it unless you don't mind spending more doing it wrong. A lot of people here will tell you their cheap-o system works and it rides like a dream! I'd rather go with the guys that know what they're talking about than someone who has probably just gotten lucky with their K-Mart suspension special.

Here is a link, http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/frequently-answered-dsm-questions/169437-suspension-faqs.html

Please read through all of it. Before you make dramatic changes to your suspension, you should know the pros/cons and how to do it right. It is going to cost you more than you plan, typically.

Go through the forums and find the members here who know their sh*t, PieEyedPiper, for example, a great resource (hope that doesn't bother him). Read their posts! :hellyeah:

Good luck.

I swear there's at least 20 threads with this exact same question. Search

And some people see the thread and are intrigued to read/discuss/ and pride themselves on helping out.

No more coffee this morning for you my friend.

How much of a drop are you looking for? I'm not sure how much better the roads are in Ohio, but here in Pittsburgh, anything over 2 inches is going to have you scraping everywhere trying to avoid all the potholes.

Not sure if this will help any, but i ran the Koni Yellow/Ground control setup i a civic that i used to own. Before I had bought those i had 2 sets of the "awesome, amazing, dream-like-riding" coilovers. I had Ksports and the Yonaka coil overs. in my opinion both of them ran like complete garbage and within 6 weeks of owning each i bought the Koni setup. Did a lot of research on them and what spring rates to run and ended up getting a moderately stiff rate for a civic. After installation i was extremely happy. I went extremely low with the car and the overall performance of them were awesome. Responded well to bad roads and was by no means teeth rattling. For an adjustable height and dampening system they were way better than anything else i have felt.

I am also in the market for coil overs for my 2g right now. Either going the Koni setup again or may give Feal's a try! hope this helps!

There are a lot of coilover threads that will exactly answer your question. However, no need to beat that horse some more. For 800 range, your only real options are the cheaper coilovers like Megans, Ksports, etc.
You will need to spend more to get better performance. Now i purchased Ksports kontrols in like 2007 when they were over 1k to buy. I really liked them for aggressive street driving. Never did more than canyon carving but could easily outdrive my friends on other setups. They worked great up all the way until they got replaced last year. I only replaced them because I went a completely different route and started doing rallycross. They are still in my basement ready to be put on another car or such.
It seems like recently, these are getting the "you get what you pay for" remarks which may be due to a decrease in quality.
I did, however, purchase ksports spec gr for rallycross use and have had great experience with them. These run 1400 and have a much higher quality than the old kontrol pros.
If you're stuck on complete coilovers(as opposed to diy konis and gcs), you may look into Feal. They recently released coilovers for the dsm platform. They are more than your 800 price range. I have heard and read nothing but great things about Feal. They do a revalvel service on the STI struts and I have driven these on another persons car and they are sooooo much better than just regular STI struts. I assume they know what they are doing over there.

I have been iffy about the cheap ksport, megans coil overs, and how long they last. Vs. others like Tein or JIC and since both companies has pretty much stop making it for the 1Gs... :(
