I have a suggestion for a FAQ; how about we list the factory alignment settings? I'm not sure members here are aware of the factory settings, how poor they are for high performance driving, and how easy it would be to change. This could aid someone looking to make changes for autox, rally, drag, or roadcourses. Then maybe we could add suggestions for alignment settings that would work for a typical car being used for various races? Not everyone has a tech manual, and I feel this info could be useful in the right hands.

Naturally, I'll start. I have only the 1G tech manual. Hopefully someone with the 2G manual can add to this.

1G AWD Front Suspension;
Camber: +0.1 degree plus or minus 0.5 degrees
Caster: 2.3 degrees plus/minus 0.5 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3 mm

1G FWD Front Suspension;
Camber: +0.05 degree plus/minus 0.5 degree
Caster: 2.4 degrees plus/minus 0.5 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3mm

1G AWD Rear Suspension;
Camber: -1.55 degree plus/minus 0.5 degree
Toe-in: 3.6mm plus/minus 3mm

1G FWD Rear Suspension;
Camber: -.75 degree plus/minus 0.5 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3mm

This link to the DSS 1G autox car makes a good model for an aggressively setup car. www.wincom.net/trog/autocross/1G_SM.html while the main changes to an AWD car used for drag racing might be to set the rear camber as close to zero as possible and leave everything else alone.

Of course, these are just my suggestions and I welcome any peer review before they go (or not) into an official FAQ.

Thanks.

All right. I'll bite...

2G FWD Front
Camber: -0.8° to +0.2°
Caster: 3.2° to 6.2°
Toe: -0.06” to 0.06” each side Total Toe: -0.12” to 0.12”

2G FWD Rear
Camber: -2.2° to –1.2°
Toe: 0.00” to 0.12” each side Total Toe: 0” to 0.24”

Stickied until we have all factory specs in. We have seperate threads for different types of racing.

This thread is not for questions.

(According to Alignment shop info)

2G AWD Front
Camber: -0.58° to +0.42°
Caster: 3.17° to 6.17°
Toe: -0.06” to 0.06” each side Total Toe: -0.12” to 0.12”

2G AWD Rear
Camber: -1.83° to –0.83°
Toe: 0.00” to 0.12” each side Total Toe: 0” to 0.24”

So we can or can't adjust the caster on the 2g AWD? I posted a thread on this several months ago and the concensous was it was not adjustable.

Going to search again....

You can't adjust caster on a 2G unless you install funky balljoints, which I do not suggest at all.

How about with the SPC upper control arms, or do they classify as having funky ball joints?

Has anyone tried them?

Yup. Funky ball joints. Greatly reduces suspension travel. Not worth it, IMHO.

In the 1992-1993 Service Manual they changed some alignment specs for the 1G.
They are as follows:

1G AWD Front Suspension; 2.0L Turbo
Camber: +0.1 degree plus or minus 0.3 degrees
Caster: 2.18 degrees plus/minus 0.3 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3 mm (plus/minus .12 in.)

1G FWD Front Suspension; 2.0L Turbo and Non
Camber: +0.05 degree plus/minus 0.3 degree
Caster: 2.24 degrees plus/minus 0.3 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3mm (plus/minus .12 in.)

1G FWD Front Suspension; 1.8L
Camber: +0.14 degree plus/minus 0.3 degree
Caster: 2.20 degrees plus/minus 0.3 degree
Toe-in: zero plus/minus 3 mm (plus/minus .12 in)

1G AWD Rear Suspension;
Camber: -1.33 degree plus/minus 0.3 degree
Toe-in: 3.6mm plus/minus 3mm or (0.14 in. plus/minus .118 in)

1G FWD Rear Suspension; 1.8L, 2.0L Turbo and Non
Camber:NOT adjustable -.45 degree plus/minus 0.3 degree
Toe-in: NOT adjustable 0.00 degree plus/minus 3mm (plus/minus .118 in.)

Hope this helps,

Can someone please clarify for me?... this thread shows my factory rear toe spec to be 0 to negative 0.12 inches.. about 1/8".. does that mean if the center of the wheel was at 0, then the front edge of the tire would be set in 1/8".. and the rear edge would be set out 1/8"? Or does it mean between the front and rear edge of the tire the total difference is 1/8?

I've maxed out my rear toe adjuster, and the least amount of toe I can get is about 3/16" at the front edge from the center hub on the right side... the left side I can get it to 0 toe. It actually handles quite well like this but I would like to get it closer to factory spec. Any suggestions?
