this morning i went to drop my small brother at school at around 9, it was abnout a 20 minute drive on the way back i kinda stepped on it and hit boost at around 5k and as im turning the corner i see a bunch of blue smoke behind my car all of a sudde the car is reving by itself and i pull over on the rad and turn it off, pop the hood and notice that the coolant line to the turbo had popped off and spilled on the way so i pretty much ran about a mile or less with no coolant or water well i asked a lady if i could have a gallon of water and well fillled it up a biit but ran to walmart and bought some 50/50 antifreeze, so i filled it up completely or what was left, and as i was running it i was concerned if any damage was caused to the turbo, so i didnt step on it but i did hit high rpms around only 4k to 5k and noticed that the turbo doesnt really spool/whine like it use to and im at work so i really cant check it and pull it apart until tomorrow, did the turbo starve and blow or did the seals go bad? i searched on youtube for bad turbosounds and it doesnt sound like that but im just concered has this happened to anybody befre ?:banghead:

So you did fix the hose, right? If you got the engine hot the most likely thing to go would be the head gasket. I would get it full with an appropriate mox of coolant/water and than see if it is burning it or not.

A turbo does not have to have water for coolant, some are just oil fed. So the turbo is not the main concern when you loose coolant.

I will agree with Bryanwheat, get your mix of coolant in, burp the system, then check for a blown HG.

Good info above^^

Many, many people including me run turbos without coolant.

Overheating of the motor and compromising the head gasket would be first concern.

If you aren't burning coolant, blowing coolant into your oil or oil into your coolant via bad headgasket I would say you're fine.

Might I suggest an aftermarket water temp gauge for the future. ;)

EDIT: Man, two wiseguys and a mod for first responders. Wish I attracted that kind of attention!

I'd recommend a pressure test of the cooling system. Harbor Freight sells a kit for 85$ that fits most cars and it will pay for its self. If you can drive it to a radiator shop they sometimes will do it for free. This should help you stop the bleeding. I would then do a boost leak test to see if anything cracked from the overheat. If both of these test give you good results this should give you peace of mind.

You can build a pressure tester for about $10. Well worth the investment. FYI a water temp gauge will do nothing if you run the system out of water.

Yes I fixed the hose as soon as I noticed that it had popped off. Well the turbo im running is a big 16g and there was a coolant line that went to the turbo if I am correct or as I remember. And yeah sorry about the grammar and the misspelling I typed this up at work and was kinda in a hurry. But most certainly will be checking the head gasket tomorrow, appreciate the help.

As was said, the turbo not having coolant ran through it is not a big deal.
Lots of people run turbos (even 16Gs) with no coolant lines.
