before anyone scolds me about "looking it up before posting." I have I couldn't find anything that I liked as an answer. with that being said, I bought a 96 eclipse rs for 1250. needed a little work so I put it in the shop. me not knowing much about what causes the car to "pull" I will ask you guys.

When I floor the gas pedal the car sounds like its about to skid tires and pull away fast but its as if i barely pushed the pedal at all. what can i do/replace/check to see if i need to change anything in the car for it to start to pull? or does the RS not pull at all LOL

uhh, as far as the miles, it has over 200k and its a manual btw. and as far as the previous maintenance, i have no idea what the previous has done to keep up with the car. but either Wednesday im gonna change oil and all that good stuff when you buy a used car.

From what you describe the clutch seems to be the culprit. with over 200k that is what I would 1st change with the description you gave. Do you have a local shop to bring it too or you plan on doing it yourself?

LOL yes, yes I am in the right gear...

"definitely sounds like a slipping clutch... when you floor it do the rpms go up but the car doesnt pick up?"

Yes, this is exactly what it does. so if this is happening, the clutch is definitely the problem?

does anyone know a good clutch to get? Or should I go ahead and put it in the shop and have them install whatever clutch they decide to get?

"...is there any misfiring or is the car jerking or buckling?"

Sometimes when im in gear and let off the gas, the car does tend to jerk itself. it stops after a couple seconds but really, im not to sure if its supposed to jerk when I let off the gas in gear (when I say "in gear" I mean, the clutch isn't pushed down and im doing the speed limit)

The jerking you're talking about is normal. It sounds like this is the first manual transmission car you've ever driven. Unfortunately your clutch is toast. Try not to floor it at low rpms anymore.

well, I've driven my brothers Camaro, and his maxima, both sticks but I've never noticed it jerking, I guess because I was learning and it jerked on a regular basis LOL. but now that I know how to drive one without stalling, I noticed it. I wasn't too worried about it, but since I was asked if it jerked around I figured Id say something just to be sure.

Now that I know its definitely the clutch, I will not be flooring it.

I appreciate all of the responses :rocks:

I'm sure you guys will be hearing more from me in the near future

How's the throttle response? If the throttle response seems uh laggy and if it is not the clutch there is a possibility of this being a timing issue.

The throttle response is good, it doesn't lag at all it does what its supposed to do.

Thats good, it's always a good thing to think outside the box for some of the issues ya know?

Anyways here is a good place to get started

Oh, I completely agree with that!! And thanks for posting that link its pretty helpful but I think I'm just going to have my mechanic buy the clutch and install it, and then upgrade to an aftermarket clutch when I am ready for it. I don't what anything to "racey" (I guess is the word LOL) just because I am still rather new to driving a manual.

Though, while its on my mind and a little off subject. But I am the OP, so I think I can do this, anyways. Sometime when im driving I notice steam coming from the top passenger side, I always pull over in a parking lot, just in case. but The steam seems to be coming from my coolant overflow.

Now, I have read that the overflow isn't supposed to boil and steam. So I ordered a new overflow with a new cap, because I was thinking the overflow cap was going bad and not keeping the pressure inside the overflow.

If anyone knows if that will fix the problem or any other ways to fix the problem, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Note: my A/C, defogger, and heat don't work. Also, I do not think my radiator fans turn on, but I don't overheat. I am missing the top RAD (HI) relay switch in the fuse box under the hood. Maybe that's it, I don't know. Nor do I know where to buy one. I was thinking also that it could be the fan switch or the fan motor itself. When I put my car In the shop im going to have my mechanic look further into the problem, since he has the tools to do so.

Thanks for all the replies, and I now know when to replace a clutch LOL :thumb:
