If the bearing is completely gone or really badly damaged, youll be able to move the end cap/rod SIGNIFICANTLY by hand. You can do a compression test to test for valves in most cases... are you sure its not a normal noise?

Its either a lifter or a spun rod. Its really quiet rigjt now but its there.ill probubly replace the lifters motor has 220,000

^ Good info.

"Ticking" has such a broad meaning when it comes to description. Some people think a knock is a tick, a rattle is a tick and so on....

Is it rpm dependent? Does it increase with rpm? Decrease with rpm? Does it quit at any given point? Does it sound like its coming from a specific area?

Noises can be tricky to diagnose. A "tick" or a "knock" can be a leaky exhaust, lash adjuster, tob, bearing, power steering pump, loose flywheel, ect and sometimes lead people in the wrong direction.

Here is an example of a "knock" noise that I for sure thought was rod knock this past season after beating on the car all weekend at the SO.

Myself and many others though it was rod knock for sure, but ended being a loose flywheel banging around on the flywheel bolts. What I'm trying to say here is noises can be decieving and a little more investigating is in order.
With 220k it may be a good idea to take a peak regardless and maybe throw some fresh ones in if they show signs of being past tolerance.
