Build looks like its coming along nicely.
Thanks man, its starting too, haha.

4/11/12 Update
The car is finally here at our new place, and I couldn't be more stoked to have it here to where I can work on it whenever. Also, I just started a new job, and I should have monies to squander on it here soon, haha. The crank was polished and the guy at the shop said that made it 10 over, which I would guess means .010 over? I'm new to actually building my own motor.

6/13/12 Update
So.. Not really any progress. I've just not had the time or money to do anything to it. I did get the freeze plugs installed, and start painting the block though.

Hopefully in the next week or so, I will be switching jobs, and making a bit more dough. That being said, I hope to have bearings ordered and installed within the next month. But time will tell. Until next time guys, peace.

good progress. I will post up a build journal myself but when the build is done, that way people will see the begining to end on one straight shot.

Thank you. I had intended to already be finished with the car by now, thats why I started the journal. But my income has changed drastically, for the worse, and with a baby due in November, my plans have been slowed quite a bit. It will be finished, just how soon is the question...

Update 6/28/12
Goodies have arrived! I'm going to start assembling the engine within the next few days, fingers crossed, and I may actually get some work done on the wiring. Our local forecast is calling for mid to high 90s and one day is supposed to hit 100. So, we will see how it goes. Until next time, peace.

Updates? I might be starting mine before you! hahaha :D

10/4/12
No progress at all... It really sucks, but I haven't been able to work on it at all. I did get rid of my Evo IX wheels though, and I've acquired a set of 3KGT 4-pot calipers. I've been spending a lot of time at the hospital the past few weeks with my wife, and this little guy came into our lives 9/22/12 at 10:57 pm. He was 6 1/2 weeks early, and weighed in at 4.25lbs and 17 1/2 inches long. There should be some slow progress once we finally get to take him home. Until next time guys.

Hope all is well and congrats on the child!
Thank you man! Life's been a roller coaster this year.

11/28/12
Not too much progress, I've been busy with the baby and I've been playing a ton of Halo 4, haha. And my shed has looked like this all summer.

Other than that, just a few random pictures. I'm going to start on lapping the valves in the next day or so, and I'll start assembly on the head after that. Just picked up a set of OEM 3mm lifters, and a set of stock cams. Until next time guys.

Taxes are back! Quite a few parts ordered so far, and more in the next couple of weeks:
SS valves from Engnbldr
Exedy slave cylinder
SS oil feed line from Extreme PSI
Hallman MBC
XTD stage 2 clutch
SS tubular exhaust mani
Prothane motor mount inserts
Exhaust stud kit form FP
A set of OEM injectors (I don't trust the ones that came with the car)
ECMLink v2.5

4/10/13
Well... Its been a bumpy road, haha. The p/o of the car had drilled (poorly), tapped (again poorly), and inserted heli-coils into every exhaust manifold stud hole.. I learned this the hard way when I was installing a new set of FP mani studs, and the new stud snapped. Took FOREVER to drill it out, and now I've got it that hole, along with all of the other holes tapped with a 10x1.25 due to the p/o being a straight up tard.

So after all that joy, I'm ready to lap the new stainless valves

Basically, thats where I'm at as of right now. I'm going to start laying the concrete either tomorrow after class, or first thing Friday morning. I've picked up a few more parts:
Stoptech rear drilled rotors
Greddy hard piping for the SMIC
Greddy Type RS BOV
Link v2.5(sold to buy concrete and AR parts)
FP intake (sold to buy AR parts)
SS O2 housing

And probably some other stuff, I just can't think right now, haha. Until next time guys, peace!

9/25/13
I really don't know if I'll ever get actually started on this thing, let alone finish it... In my previous post, I said I was going to lay a concrete pad. Well, I did, that was fun. But guess what, I can't use it. Due to all of the awesometastic rain we've had here in the Carolina's this summer, the rain washed out a good size ditch/valley/whatever you call it, and now when it rains the least bit, the pad gets flooded. Back to square one.

I have plans to lay ANOTHER pad on the other side of the building (there is a half of a carport on either side). I have the plans for it, now I just need the money, haha.

I've purchased a Mishimoto aluminum radiator, and Mishimoto magnetic oil drain plug. I also recently purchased a pressure washer. I'm going to pull the floor pan plugs, and pressure wash that ho! I found a seller on eBay who makes rubber blanking plugs that I'm going to repalce the floor pan plugs with. Also, I'm going to go to the Pic-A-Part as soon as the rain stops, and pull some carpet.

The plan on that is to clean the carpet, dye the carpet, and of course, install the carpet! This way when put the dash and what-not back in this time, it's not coming out again. I plan to update this in the next couple of weeks.

Stay tuned, if you want to. Until next time, peace.

I looked all through this thread and I love this build that you have going! I was completely blown away when you said it was some sort of evo block. I lost my mind! definitely a subscription to this thread. Two questions I have is....how long did the block sit for before it last started? And Did you have to bore it at all? If so can you describe to me what the cylinder walls were like when you first cracked the engine open?

I love this EVO/DSM build so beastly!:thumb:

Thank you, I appreciate the support! It is a block out of an Evo III. I'm not 100% sure how long the block sat. My understanding is the guy I bought it from had taken it apart and it was just sitting in his garage. When I got the block, the cylinder walls were in excellent condition, you could still slightly see the cross-hatch pattern on them. Being that the condition of the cylinder walls were so good, there wasn't any boring required, they were just honed to put a fresh cross-hatch on them.

Its nice to see im not the only one out there with questions. Nice build, cant wait to see this thing fire up. Mine should fire within the next 90 days LOL)) so excited, but at the same time its depressing seeing how much $$$ ive put in this thing LOL

Thank you, and good luck on getting yours running! I know what you mean about how depressing it is thinking about the money poured into these cars. I went on a cruise with a group a couple days ago, and got to see a few clean 2Gs there, and all the depressing feelings are gone, haha!!

10/30/13

So, I've actually made a little time to mess with the car lately. I removed the dash again, and some the whole heater/blower assembly, which simply put was a bi***, and pressure washed the entire car, inside and out. I also removed the "plugs" that are on the floor. I had started a thread in the Newbie section a while back, and nobody had any information about removing them or anything. So I removed the ones that are in the front, and the hole diameter is 1 1/8", and I picked up a pack of rubber plugs from eBay for $10 that are the same size.

I also removed the sound deadening material from both sides of the firewall. I'm also in the process of removing all of the tar/sound deadening stuff from the floors. This stuff is a pain. I've read that the Honda guys use dry ice, but I've also read mixed reviews on it. I guess I'll stick with the rubber mallet and the putty knife....

Also, if all goes right, next week I'll be picking up carpet and roll-on undercoating stuff. I'm planning on dying the carpet black, because black carpet is the bee's knees. This time when the dash goes back in, it's not coming back out until I can find a black dash. Until next time, peace!

Just waiting for it to warm up outside... Can't really get anything done when the temperature stays around 30*. Still waiting for the local Pull-A-Part to get in a 2g with some usable carpet. And the plan is to order the rest of the parts around the middle of February, I hope. Until next time guys, peace.

2/21/14

Almost all of my parts that I ordered are here! Still waiting on a couple of things, ECU and Prosport gauges to be exact. I'll get pictures once everything is here. Some parts by B&M, DXD/South Bend Clutch, JM Fab, Moog, EBC, Torque Solutions, and of course some new OEM Mitsubishi stuff. I'm at the point where I have just about everything to be able to put the car together and get it on the road. At least I think so...

Also, I decided for the time being that I will be using a custom tuned EPROM chip by MY1GDSM. I know just about everyone insists on buying DSM Link, and I will, eventually. I'm just holding off on that until I actually start buy parts to make more power. But for now, I'll be more than happy with the tuning setup that Stacy is coming up with.

One other thing to add. The plan right now is to get my car moved to my wife's grandmother's house. She has a smaller garage that I can use to get to work on the car. It's a little smaller, but it's still a garage! Hopefully that takes place in the upcoming weeks. Until I can actually work on the car, I'll just be accumulating parts, haha.

5/14/14

Well.... It's been a while since my last update. Not much has changed at all. I took FOREVER getting up all of the sound deadening material from the driver and passenger floor boards, but I finally finished it. After I got all of that out, I sanded, primed, then laid down two coats of Rust-Oleum truck bed liner. My idea with this is that it should provide some noise dampening effects, but it's nowhere near as heavy or as thick as the factory tar/shit that I removed.

I managed to get the drive shaft unbolted and then got the rear strut tower brace bolted on today. I purchased one of the OEM Drive Shaft Yoke Repair Kits back in February, and hopefully will get that put on here soon. After I clean up the drive shaft of course, haha. After I get that back from the machine shop, I'll get that assembled then move on to the block! The current plan is to have the car moving under it's own power before the end of summer. I've decided that if I can't at least drive the car once or twice before the end of the year, I'm going to get rid of it. So I had better get my ass in gear.

Also, I just traded some parts for a low mileage 2g head last week. I finished tearing the head down today, and will hopefully scrape up enough dough to get it cleaned within the next week or two. And BTW, if any of you guys plan on taking a head apart, I would highly suggest the EuroExport Inc. valve spring compressor. It's $75 bucks, but it makes removing the valve springs from the head a piece of cake, plus it saves you a bunch of time. And between a toddler, school, and work, time isn't very easy to come by these days.
