Hello everyone. Me and my GF have been thinking about moving to Seattle this summer. Me and my brother plan to drive down through Canada in my eclipse.

I was curious if emission testing is required there? In alaska we have no emissions testing.

Also anyone have recommendations on where abouts to move to in Seattle?
Nothing pricey, but good safe friendly etc. We looking at apartments for the moment. Something that I have always wanted to do was to live in a tall as building in the sky LOL. Anyways thanks for the info!

anywhere in suburban or highly populated areas require emissions. i had to register my car to my moms house where it doesnt require emissions and i dont even live in the seattle area

Seems to be a lack of consistency from what I've seen between counties as to what regulations they have. King County (which Seattle is a part of) has quite a few lax places that either don't require it at all like the city of Enumclaw south about 45 mins from downtown, or if they do require it often will just check your fuel cap, make sure you don't have any CEL, and then do a quick tail pipe sniffer at a sustained 2500rpm or so. If your car is in good mechanical condition and you have DSMlink to cancel out DTC checks I would think you could pull it off by going to one or two places.

Alternatively, if you do go to one and fail, we have a wonderful voucher that you are eligible for if you spend more than roughly $125 (number keeps changing) towards repairs to pass. You never actually have to pass this way. A friend on here has access to said vouchers through a shop he works at as do many other qualified repair facilities. Up to you which route you take, but I wouldn't worry too bad and its only every other year so if you want you could pass it close to stock then throw all your mods back on.

You may wanna take a look at Queen Anne. Its nestled right against downtown without as much pain to get around. Can walk to EMP, lots of shopping and entertainment close by, and not as ungodly expensive as right down in Pioneer Square for instance. Another nice spot right in the mix is Beacon Hill. Overlooks the whole sound and the stadium district, but is more than a walk away from all the big buildings. Again though, its a bit cheaper and you'll get more for your money, while still being close to everything. UDistrict is ghetto as hell, so is a lot of the south part of downtown. Stick to the hills/north seattle and you'll be happier I feel like! GL with the move...

that is a good point i didnt make if your tune is on point then u should be able to pass and i believe it is up to $150 to get the voucher which is always a viable option to keep your car as is

Having lived in lower Queen Anne for almost four year I can definitely vouch for it being a nice place to live. I was one block from the Seattle Center and one block the other way of Mercer St and Queen Anne if you want a googlemap reference. The only thing I will say about the Queen Anne area is that 3 years ago when I was there last street parking availability was already an issue. Maybe go a little further out from the city to find a lax person renting a house that you can park your car and also wrench at.

Lol yah I have heard. But also heard its beautiful there.
I will be in Seattle airport tomorrow have a 4 hour layover before heading to Colorado for job training. Maybe I I can get a look of the city.

Whatcom County Washington = no emission testing.

about 84 miles north of seattle everywhere else on i-5 corridor = emission's testing
