So I'm building an all motor car (420a) and the time has come to buy something to help on traction. I don't have the money this summer to buy an actual helical lsd, so I was looking at getting one of the inserts. There's a guy that has a Phantom Grip #904 gold lsd insert that he is going to sell to me for $200 shipped, but I got to looking around and saw CI Motorsports has one for $159.99. Is there any difference between the two? Anyone have experience with the CI Motorsports insert? I'm thinking once CI adds shipping costs, it will probably be about the $200 mark as well. Any input? BTW, I'm planning to get a reworked OBX unit from Modern in a few months, an insert will do what I need until then...

If you dont have the money for a real LSD dont get an insert because an insert will end up costing you more in the long run. The inserts eventually bind the spider gears up and will explode the differential and possibly put a whole in your transmission case.

I had that happen to my NA Talon and have seen it happen on other cars too. The stronger the insert the more LSD affect it has, but higher the chance of it binding the gears.

This was one of the shortcuts I was going to take and haven't had any experience with them. I have a Quaife on my turbo'd car, but I'm thinking I'll look for an OBX unit and mod it now. Anyone have one for sale? :)

Looking for an OBX unit... Saw them on racingpartsdepot.com for $430 plus $20 shipping. Anyone know anywhere cheaper?

Just seen a brand new quaife go for $700 on neons.org.. Kind of kicking my self for not finding it sooner. Start looking around for anyone selling there's, If not just by the upgraded obx one on modern and call it good!

And there's your problem. Why on earth would you shell out a couple hundred bucks, drop your trans, adn put in the wrench time, if you're only planning on doing it again and spending more money? Save your money and buy a Quaife. Phantom Grips are crap in comparison.

Well the motor and trans are already out of the car and I'm planning big things for the car after summer, so pulling the motor and trans again isn't a big deal for me. It's my dedicated track car, so pulling the motor takes no time at all.. But for the money, a rebuilt OBX unit will be perfect for me. Didn't realize they could be had for so cheap. :)

Are you drag racing or HPDE or autocross? If you are drag racing and its a track ONLY car I would run a welded diff that was welded PROPERLY before I ran an OBX or PG diff. If its an autocross or HPDE then you need to save and buy the quaife...

Ive been running the Ed Peters OBX LSD by MPx. Well over 3k (hard miles) on it, and still work very nicely..... Biggest suggestion is getting it installed by an actual trans mechanic.
