I assume a lot of the people on this forum have bought from them before, I see they even have a registered username here.

I was considering:

A:selling my talon and starting a new...

or

B: Rebuilding my engine...

I know that a 100K+ engine doesn't make a great candidate for a race engine, and I was considering a rebuild before even attempting to bolt anything on to my car. I'm not looking to make much power, somewhere between 300-400. Say 350 for argument sake.

So, my questions are these.

Are Frankenstein rods factory rods?

I understand what OEM means and is, however what is ITM/NPR... are these brand names, and just improved OEM parts?

Can I put 6 bolt rods in my 7 bolt motor?

And finally for my desired HP rating will i be okay with these? Assuming the will fit in a 7 bolt engine!
Frankenstein Connecting Rods w/ NPR 2G Pistons - 6 Bolt - DSM Graveyard Inc.

Thanks

I would stay steer clear of DSMGraveyard, feel free to read some of the reviews to get a better understanding of why I say this.

Nothing wrong with 100k+ mile engine having bolt-ons, what's its current condition? If the engine has healthy compression, not a lot of blow by and has all regular maintenance done first then it'll be fine.

Just do a google search and a fourm search.

That should give you all the info you want on them.

For the other questions.

Yes the frank rods are modded 6 bolt rods cut to fit a 7 bolt, also the the wrist pin hole is enlarged for the 22mm 2g/7bolt wrist pin.

NPR are the factory suppliers to mitsu for pistons and rings, ITM buys them from NPR and puts them in there own boxes, same as Enginetech and some other parts suppliers.

This^, If you could look up that they had a username, you should of seen all the reviews as well as discussions in the newbie forms.

But as to your original question, I'd sell it before I did anything dsmgraveyard with it.

I don't think DSMGraveyard is even a vendor here anymore. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. But, they are horrible from the reviews I've read. I would not advise doing any business with them. I would go to STM or extremepsi if I were you and just do the rebuild yourself (didn't know if you were going to have DSMGraveyard do it for you or not). There are plenty of us to help you! :thumb:

I've heard good things about slow boys. As stated above stm is also a good vendor. I wouldn't recommend dsm graveyard though, just because of experiences I've had.

Slowboy is JUST AS BAD as DSMGraveyard! They had all these issues and changed their name it Built.... Built[4G63] etc. They hoped the name change would take some heat off them.

^ Check out the first two reviews

There a good amount of shops on this fourm that will help you build whatever level of power you need or want.

Force engineering, JAM, SIM, Magnus, even my shop.

I would also stay as far away as possible from slowboy too. I got screwed of a stage 3 head from them. When I tried to call them I could not get anybody on the phone or a reply via email. When I tried to call the owners, their voicemail box was always full. I eventually scrapped the head.....well I sold it on the tuners classified for parts.

I'm not sure what you miles translate to in kilometers but my 230k kilometer motor loves 20psi. Make sure your maintenance is up to date and you've got no leaks.
I also changed my head gasket and did ARP head studs.

Run for zeeee hilllls! Op: WTF? No offense intended. I just hate how these assholes are still luring in unsuspecting people but they have burned so many 'tuners members you could have googled it and would get plenty of hits.
At least now you know. Glad you didnt buy, even though this thread isnt necessary, you didnt get burned. Another dsm has been saved!

Edit: Didnt read whole thread, sorry sno.

OP: Many have suggested great shops. JAM offers a great price for what they do and they have an impeccable reputation. From the threads ive seen and pics, i would argue that Bogus might be the best build you could get. Just my .02 and not personal experience.
If you go local make sure they have built several evo/dsm's, provide proof, and references for the builds. I learned very hard that machinists w no dsm experience are a roll of the dice. A simple test would be to call and ask: "Do you guys have a 4g63 torque plate?"
That should give you an idea if theyre worth more than 1 minute of your time.

Reads thread thread title

Before reading contents od thread, yells to OP

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TURN BACK NOW!!"

Edit:
Stm, magnus, force engineering, BOGUSSVO, JAM, english racing, boostin performance are all great shops that could build you a wicked motor, although you can probably get away with a stock rebuild with those power goals.

Ouch did I hit a sore spot?

The reason I asked if they were any good is because I have read reviews stating they aren't, and if yall are like me, I only write a review when I'm dissatisfied. Meaning if it were just me writing reviews and y'all reading them, everything would be a shitty site or store.

But I guess they just aren't any good...

I'm going to auto merge this because I forgot to quote someone...

I don't truly know the condition of the car but I bought it to be spritly driven 80% of the time.

Also the mods I'm currently looking at are either a 16g or 20g turbo, injectors, eculink, HV fuelpump, ARP head studs and FMIC I already bought C.O.P.
I have done a compression test on it before, But I did it when I couldn't get it started. Numbers were something around 75-60. I have gotten it started since then and the no start was caused by 3 skipped teeth on the timing. I would assume it would give me false numbers. Thus I'm rechecking it again today. I been putting it off because i have C.O.P. and its a pain to get back on...

Feel free to contact us or shoot us a PM with any questions. We would love to help you out with a new engine if you decide to go that route. Im happy to see you posted about buying a block from the graveyard before actually doing it. We are somewhat close to them 30 mins and you can not believe the amount of work we get from other customers that got screwed over. ALWAYS check the reviews before buying anything this site does a great job to keep everyone informed on these bad shops!!

You must be the person I spoke to on ebay...

Here's the results of the compression test I've just done...

I followed these guide lines
