I'm the original owner of my 1991 GSX. I took delivery in Jan 1991. My local dealer didn't have the color and options I wanted (GSX, Maranello Red, 5-speed, CD player, cloth seats, sunroof, no ABS) so they searched and found one at another dealer and had it shipped to them.
I read about and followed the development of the DSM triplets as it was being conceived. The concept cars, the Chrysler/ Mitsubishi joint-venture, the new plant being built in Normal, Illinois, everything. I was hooked and determined to get one. I visited all the Mitsubishi and Eagle dealers in my area just checking them out and collecting brochures until I was ready to buy. I wasn't interested in the Plymouth because I wanted the spoiler and ground effects, not to mention that it had no AWD option at the time. Not many dealers had the AWD or Turbos in stock; mostly base, GS and Tsi models. I decided on the Eclipse because I thought it looked more restrained and classy with the body colored spoiler and ground effects as opposed to the Talon with the black spoiler, although I didn't really like the wheels of the Eclipse compared to the Talon. Also, the change from black to body color side molding on the Eclipse in '91 helped with the upscale look.
I was peeved when I heard that they were refreshing the Eclipse for '92 with fixed headlamps when I haven't even had my car for a year, but now I'm glad I did get a '91 because I think they look better and no wavy rear bumper!
