I would love to but your pretty far away, I grew up doing brakes and suspension work and motor work but my love has always been in body work.

Thx dude

Good going so far

Looking forward to seeing more :thumb:

Kinda curious what it felt like on the inside when driving with those vents. Looks like it was vent to the inside of the car. WTF

Glad to see this car being saved. Good job man.

This is one hell of a job you're taking on. One of the most clapped out dsms ive ever seen. Awesome that you're doing it though. I wouldnt take that car for free! Now theres one more saved dsm in the world, im happy about that for sure.

Big parts day today :) only paid 120$ for all of it

Will be installing everything next weekend

Had a lot of time away from the project, divorce is expensive LOL

As someone who currently owned both a turbo and non-turbo eclipse I do not see how this was swapped. Unless I am missing something from the pictures I do not see how the swap was made. Could you show a better picture of the engine bay and more importantly the frame rails?

I am not 100% doubting this but I just do not see it. It would be easy to swap a dash to make it appear legit. Look on the drivers side inside where the door shuts and on the bulk head on the firewall theres a tag in the engine bay. If that tag says 420a you have a legit swapped car.

As stated on Paige 1, all 3 vin# locations pan out, I'm aware a 420a to 4g63 swap takes some work but I do believe this is a legit swap, I even took it to the police station when I bought it and they said it all checks out.

A long time ago I built a 240z when I went to sell it it turned out to be stolen and I lost about 7k$ in parts and labor and was forced to have the car returned to the owner it was stolen from.

Will not be doing that ever again.

Totally stoked to get everything installed this weekend and take her for her first drive since I got the car.

Awesome work so far on this build. I used to watch my dad do bodywork back in the day and wish i could do more myself. I will be following this build, it makes me feel a lot better about my GSX not being as big of a project as it could be :D

Thx man, yeah I'm missing the piping that goes connects to the turbo.

And beside those stupid vents and the one dent the body really isn't too bad, can't wait to get started

Well. The rear bumper is not their

Muddling and getting ready to sand my patch panels :)

One side done on the initial mud and sand, drivers side is being problematic and will need more mud work

Looking much better but not perfect yet, probably one more build up with mud on the drivers side and a ton of high build primer and sand on both sides after

Calling it for the day, very happy with the progress this week and can wait to get at it 3 days straight in my bday next weekend :)

Standards don't have cruise control right?

And I got the air vents and stock stuff installed today too

But I think this car was an automatic now because of the cruise control buttons? And answers guys and gals?

I've got to admit when I opened this thread and saw that you were a self-proclaimed JDM fan, I got quite a bit worried. Even more worried when I saw the car's condition.

However I'm proud to say you've put those worries to rest. You know what you're doing, and those panels look incredible. Will be watching this closely. Also, sorry to hear about your divorce. Always hate to hear that.

I guess I'm part of the club, both of my standard DSM's had cruise and it didn't work as well...
It's really good to see that someone is putting the work in to save a car like this, you're truly a master of a lost art sir! I've done some light body work with my Dad before and it always seemed so satisfying to compare before and after pictures after everything was all painted up and looked good. I hope your kids have a similar experience! This gives me inspiration for my build, and now that my Dad's 3000GT runs hopefully I can have the same dedication to my car as you have to yours. Good luck!

Wow I did not know that. And thx for all the kind words guys, took a lot of work but it's looking way better, pretty soon it will look pretty legit.

Standards did in fact come with cruise. Matter of fact, that is one of the first things people remove to clean up the bay.

And what do they normally put their?

Next segment will be to install all the fmic and piping and making sure the new nfl plugs and wires are gapped and installed, then fully install the bumper covers, and finish the major body work on the car, and get the high build primer sprayed on, that way Sunday is all about sanding and getting ready for glaze and final sand before paint and clear coat. Then 800-1000-1500 wet sand and...

Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself.

Thank you man, that's a pretty big compliment and I appreciate it :)

I should have said this first, car looks great man, being from the Northwest I know it's hard to find a quality DSM. So I understand the want to do it yourself. Excited to see the progress and final product!

Not sure if you're asking about what people do after replacing the cruise control. A lot of people simply remove the cable from box on the firewall and scrap the cruise control. When I installed my JMF intake manifold there was now way I could keep the cruise control/throttle cable box. So I swapped it out with a non-cruise control cable out of a spyder (i believe it was out of a spyder. just ordered the oem part, correct me if i'm wrong). That comes out of the fire wall and directly to the throttle body rather than wrapping around the intake manifold and clipping to the valve cover. As for the interior I think most people leave the buttons and steering column controls.

Ah I see. Well I was able to get some interior door panels. So all I really need the the radio bezel and new headliner and the inside is complete, I have new key tumblers and door handles on their way. I think I'm going to cf the door handles, I've done it before, it's a bi*** but it looks awesome.

Pics later today after the work is finished.

I was able to bang out and slide hammer most of the dent below the gas cap door, it still isn't making perfect body lines so I need to do more work before the mud goes on.

I did how ever get the entire hood back to bare metal, that ####er had four layers if paint in it. Right now the plan is to paint the car white and just clear coat the hood showing the metal, and get carbon fiber hood latches, with bright comp orange wheels

I think it will give it a unique and aggressive look
B0237003-7258-482C-8A63-5CDD765EF35B.jpg

And the radiator fans where all ####ed up and not working, and the 30 amp fuse was blown, I had an open wire so I pulled the loom apart and cleaned everything up, all the sudden all the lights work in the dash and even the cigarette lighter too :)
