To start, i have owned my Spyder Gs with the 4G64 engine for about 4 years and i love it, a few weeks ago the timing tensioner broke and it skipped time, i believe it might have bent valves and i think it might be time to drop a 4G63T motor in my car, my question is would a 4G63 from a 1g fit in my car? I've been looking in the classifieds and want to purchase soon, i believe that i will need the motor with the wiring harness and ECU, any advise is welcome. Thanks in advance.

to answer your question , A 4g63 1G/6bolt or 2G/7bolt will fit in your GS Spyder. the spots were the motors mounts go are the same. You may need 2G/4g63 motor mounts, unless you can use the GS ones, im not entirely sure. Of course, you need a matching Gen ECU for your engine "unless you want to run LINK" then use a 95-Eprom And a engine harness.

That trans/engine combo can be done. I have a F5M31 trans (4g64) in my GST Spyder (by VIN it should have a F5M33 trans). However, it wasn't by choice. I bought it like this. I suggest you find the proper transmission for the 4g63 engine (F5M33) since it is built strong enough to handle the abuse from the 4g63. My F5M31 trans is gradually suffering from the abuse I give it. My synchro rings (blocker rings) are being worn down and therefore I experience a lot of grinding when I normally shouldn't. Mainly during down shifting.

He is right, it is not un-common to see spyders sold on Craigslist for next to nothing because of "transmission problems" , the 4g64 tranny is not something i recommend either, good luck.

idk about the spyder but when I did the 6 bolt swap into my car the main things I mad sure of was buying a motor with the transmission and harness and as far as ## ecu goes its really up to what u plan on for ## car. since im planning to build my car for high hp im using ecm link v3. if u just want the swap and don't really car for the whole build it bigger and better than everyone I wld just use an ecu from the year model that u r getting the car from. hope this helps

It would fit yes, but the 1G trans has a cable clutch, 2G has hydraulic so you'd have to mod something to make the 1G trans work. It also has mounts in different locations. The 1G engine doesn't mess with the OBDII system as long as all the sensors from the 2G harness are installed right. Also putting a a 1G engine in, you'll need to install the CAS harness to get the crank and cam sensors to work normal.

Every 1g i've been through must of been upgraded to a hydraulic clutch system by previous owners then.

Change of plans here, i am buying a 1998 GST that i found a sweet deal with under 100k miles, the problem is that it is Automatic, i want to swap the engine from this car into my Spyder that is a MT, just need to know if the wire harness and the ECU from an AT will work, i already researched about the wire harnes, but have not been able to find nothing in regards to the AT ECU on an MT car. Thanks!

Have you thought about selling the car you have now and just getting a gst spyder?
