ok i bought a 4g64 from someone.. it has 4g64 stamped into the back side.. came with just a crank. what happened was the front balance shaft spun the bearing inside the block and ruined the rest.. so i had the crank fixed. it is a 7 bolt. and put some rods and pistons in it and bought a new oil pump for a 7 bolt 4g63. the issue is the alternator mount does not line up with oil pump.. FYI the 4g64 and 4g63 engine that came in DSMs all had the same part number for the oil pump from the parts store(easy way to check). Now i did find a thread on here in which someone had the exact same issue as i did with a car they knew nothing about but it was a dead end.. ALOT of wrong information in that thread that was tossed around and the last post not clearing anything up. also this engine has knock sensor on the front side. idk what this is out of

yes... btw i have actual experience with "turning cranks" that internet hype you have read is a big myth.. a dsm one at that.. never had an engine spin a bearing in all the cars ive had.. thanks for yet another useless post by urbansmoker

Nothing wrong with cut cranks..

Sorry to tell you this but you have a 99-03 galant/00-05 eclipse...etc 4g64 block.

good find 2slow4now! thats exactly what i have.. now just making it work as i dont have the pan that came with it.. guess its off to find another block for simplicity..

ill read up on that thread some more but the if it fits to trans im fine with 1 less bolt between the trans and engine.. but i need the alternator and moving the lower mount of alternator up to that location im afraid it might not work with power steering bracket.. ill find out tomorrow for sure.. thanks for the clarification lasthope. good to know

The lower bolt is the one that will be missing and is very important in holding the bellhousing to the block properly without the front lower bolt and dowel you will very likely break the bellhousing off the trans.

yeah ive came to the conclusion to just find a different block.. i could have made some sort of bracket for behind the block like the other thread but.. find a 4g64 block thats right and everything works perfect

Brian is spot on about the trans mounting. I didn't want to bust your bubble right away on a guess but I was pretty sure you had the newer 4g64. At least you didn't get to the point of installing it before you found out.

I had a 2001 galant in my driveway then and was itching to yank it out and start building it. Oh well. I got my son a 2g convertible that just happens to have a 2.4 in it. he he he

well i just went to pick n pull and found about 15 cars with a 4g64 in them.. the ones mounted the opposite way had the differences in the casting.. the ones mounted the same way had the right castings on the block.. which falls right in with what lasthope said.. but lucky me i found someone with a 4g64 short block out of a 99 spyder for $50.. get this bad boy to the machine shop monday and get rolling

As for urbansmoker's finger wag, I just made 800hp and 556tq on a stock mitsubishi crank turned .010 mains and .020 rods. We love our machined cranks. Ensures nice, straight, true journals. No bearing issues here.

I think his Internet reading has led him to believe he is going to be busting cranks when he blasts earth shattering 11 second passes from the tiny bit of material removed.
