This is definately a newbie question.

Im rebuilding my 95 Talon TSI AWD and tonight I hooked up the battery to test and make sure the power windows, locks, lights and gas gage work.

After hooking up battery I found the 4 ways were turned on, so that was good I know they work. I got in the car and turned the 4 ways off. Then I turned the headlights on. They work and the high beams. I tried to turn the headlights off and they got stuck on. Even after taking key out of ignition.

Then the horn started honking on and off. So I thought oh great alarm, and pulled the battery connection. What was odd was it was honking the front horn not the alarm horn on the fire wall.

I hooked the battery back up and pulled the horn plug. Lights stuck on. SO I checked inside the cabin,

Here's what I found working:

High beams
sun roof
wipers
blinkers

Here is what is not working:

Both windows, door locks, no interior lights, no cluster lights or any dash lights except for the high beam indicator, no gas gage or curtesy lights, no fan or defrost.

Is this a simple security alarm issue or do I have a cluster of problems with this car?

Definitely check the alternator fuse. I blew mine last year and the windows didn't work, but turning the headlights on caused the horn to blow until I pulled the battery cable. A new one for a couple dollars at the parts store fixed it.

Don't overlook the fact that all these circuits must be grounded. Check the grounding points, including the one near the ecu, behind the right console side panel.

Exact same thing happened to me. I dropped a nut on the alternator and it blew the fuse.

Thanks guys, I will check the alternator fuse. I found today that 2 thick white wires were not hooked up inside the engine bay fuse box. That should be a big factor.

This car is a basket case. It has been sitting in the weeds for several years and people have been picking off of it. So I am basically starting from scratch here. Every step of progress unfolds 5 more issues.

Ok, so problem has been resolved. Here is what happened.

The headlights being stuck on and the horn were actually from the alarm system. Don't ask me why or how but I pulled the relay and fuse and that fixed those problems.

As far as the cabin power, yes it was the white wire inside the fuse box.

There are 6 wires ganged together to make 3 pairs. One pair comes from the battery to the back side of the fuse box and is connected with a 6mm bolt. Then there is another pair that is connected to the front side of the fuse box that goes down to the wire harness. Last but not least is the third pair which also bolts to the front of the fuse box and connects to the power source via the Alternator fuse (100A). What I did in the mean time was just hooked up that pair directly to the power pair coming in from the battery and I have power everywhere now.

Why that wire and fuse were removed is beyond me but that's what happens when yo buy a basket case of a car.

Thanks for your help everyone, one step closer to completion.
