A buddy and I are about to give this a try.

We are going to be using Lexan Sheets, so it should be durable and shouldn't yellow like acrylic will when exposed to UV light.

We got our mold done, just have to do some touch up's in a few spots. Next step it to build our rig to hold the Lexan.

I will post pictures, and updates as we go.

Subscribed! Can't wait to see how this turns out. I was thinking about sanding down the inside of my lenses to make them clear......that might not work as well as this should though LOL.

It's going to take some some trial and error to get the temperature dialed in, but I think that's going to be the biggest hurtle.

I'm sure there will be a lot of interest in this after we perfect our method. Well at least we hope so anyway!

We would never do that... ;)
Maybe we can trade you a set down the road for a turbo, ok maybe two sets. :D

Awesome! I'd be interested, my one and only set of clear headlights I bought and sold in less than two days, kind of wish I would have kept them (made for a nice profit though!). LOL

I am planning on eventually trying this myself so am interested in how it goes. Wondering if you had any plans to attempt a mold of the side markers? Subscribed and good luck!

You working on the lens only right? something the average jabronie can replace on his headlamps?

Yes sir

**Update**

This past weekend we started looking at building the frame that holds the lexan.

We finally agreed on a design and we should have it built by this weekend. Hopefully by this weekend we will be able to test everything out and show you guys some pictures of the final product.

After we perfect the headlights, then we want to move to side markers and possibly fog lights.

Side markers would be gnarly as well. I hate those cheap ass eBay ones so I just rock the stockers. In for pics!

ok we ran into a little snag.

I wasn't aware of the tabs on the outside of the lenses that holds the corner lights on.

I'm not sure how to get the lenses and tabs casted in one piece.

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

If it's lexan, you should be able to plastic-weld the mounting tabs made of lexan right to it. After tabs are attached to pre-cut shape, heat it up and stamp it. That way it will press the tabs flush with the rest of plastic, making it (almost) one piece. May even get away with just placing the tabs in the mold without attaching them first. Heat and pressure from molding will fuse everything together.
Or stamp it with a "ridge" all around the part and then cut the "ridge" off leaving only what is needed for the tabs.
Would say that the first method will work better because it will produce much fewer scrap pieces.

Anything come about with this? Or did it just dry up and disappear? Just saw another thread about someone saying that their friend is gonna make clear lenses............
