anybody on this site use a cx racing intercooler? i realize they are a budget type place but if it works it works.

thx guys. they seem to be the only ones with the size/ config i'm looking for that's less than 500 bucks.

Intercoolers are about the only offbrand/ebay parts that are ok to buy. Stay away from turbos, etc. though.

I have the godspeed short route intercooler. The BOV it came with is garbage, but the rest of it is perfectly fine.

Keep an eye on the classifieds here and your local craigslist for even better deals.

Its all the same practically where they source these cores from. PR, Cx racing whichever is a decent buy and setup. Just get a real BOV and your good to go.

VRSF doesn't make shit to do with the intercooler core, just FYI. The old SSAC 2G kit is what the VRSF 2G kit is. They still sell them on eBay as well. My advice if you have to go with a cheap intercooler is grab the short route 2G kit off of eBay or the Punishment kit from Punishment. Avoid VRSF completely.

And just because I can't help it...you should save your pennies and buy an ETS kit. Support our vendors that still support us. Forced Performance, ETS, JNZTuning, STM, etc. All of those guys are still making new and innovate products for these cars despite 99% of DSMers being cheap asses. Keep the aftermarket for these cars alive, as I would like to own these cars for the rest of my adult life. Stop buying eBay and fly-by-night vendors, and invest in the companies that have been around and still support us. Think of it as investing for the future so they'll still be here when your children get old enough to get into these cars. :p

I ran a Punishment kit for years and never had an issue, even up to 40psi from an HX40. Intake temps were always very reasonable. At low boost I rarely saw more than a few degrees above ambient. I even had an issue with the core freezing over during the winter.

I also used the shady KO BOV they include. My only issue was blowing off the O-ring that seals the BOV piston to the base, but it didn't even make a difference. And again that was at 40psi. Lower boost wouldn't blow the ring off.

If you get the cx or punishment racing kit, make sure the surface where the BOV mounts is flat. Mine was uneven and caused a small boost leak. 5mins with a flat file will fix it.

I ran the PR kit and it certainly beats the smic... But I wanted a little more so I kept the pipes and splurged on the ETS race core instead. PR is decent and is an improvement on a budget, but ETS blows it out of the water.

x2 on fixing all mating surfaces. I belt sanded and polished the TB flange (just because I did the others, it was not bad at all)

Definitely need to flatten the BOV flange, no where near flat. Also fill whatever holes you choose not to use or relocate them like this:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/152844469-post1.html (braze works if you cannot afford to get it welded, maybe JB weld also if you are just plugging and not re-drilling)

Also flatten the J-pipe flange if applicable. And clean all the nasty burs on the ends of the pipes (round file and scotch-brite pad)

That's all the 'finishing' touches the PR kit needs. maybe get real SS tbolt clamps. The PR ones I had back then rusted the threads.

Been happy with my PR kit. Flange was nice and flat, no leaks, no problems. I havent went SD yet so i cant say what the IATs are. Ran up to 35psi a few times. Couplers still nice n tight.

I prefer vrspeed factory or punishment racing fmic over cxracing in a fmic imo. I did run one of there cxracing raidators tho it did just fine. Eather way you will be fine.
