i have a 97 eclipse gst and it has a sputter around 2500 rpm and it seems like it wont build up boost like sometimes it will only get up to about 3500rpm and it takes awhile to get going even if i push the pedal to the ground and will not go over 45/50 even if i push the clutch in it takes a minute to get passed 3500rpm and then when u release the clutch it drops down to 2000 it has new maf sensor and it seems to be getting horrible gas mileage and running rich i have no clue what this could be :banghead: all help would be great

By your description I would say it's a boost leak... have you tried to perform one?

this is my first turbo car and someone did tell me that but i haven't checked yet any suggestions on how to check?also there was oil in the intercooler when i took it off is this a problem?

Might have a blown turbo, because of the oil in the intercooler. But as far as the BL test, look up a video on youtube, I'm sure there are tons of good ones there. Good Luck.

oil in the intercooler is a very worn turbo. you can build or buy a boost leak tester very cheap. was this an issue before mac replacement? any cels?

Yeah, your oil seal is gone on the cold side of your turbo. Sure you could buy a rebuild kit. But I recommend that you take your turbo apart and inspect it thoroughly. Also, you should get an in-line oil filter for your turbo. To prevent any bad particles from getting in there.

Oil in the intercoolers can indicate a blown turbo but it doesn't mean that the turbo is blown. Most of these cars with some mileage will push oil thru the vent hose into the intake pipe. It is rare to pull a stock intercoolers from one of these with no oil in it.

Overkill, the stock oil line on a stock turbo is more than sufficient.

Were not even sure if its stock. Like he said, its his first turbo car. We have no idea what mods have been done. Theirs nothing wrong with being extra cautious in case something fails. I prefer to spend $50-$80 on a in-line filter than having to spend $500-$600 to have my turbo rebuilt.

50 to 80 for just the filter, than another 50 for the fittings and hose, which will exceed the price of the stock turbo. That is cool that you like to do it that way, but you are misleading the original poster into thinking it is a requirement when it isn't.

I was writing it as an option. I can see how it could have been misleading. Sometimes when typing thoughts into words can be taken differently.

I find this to be true. Mine looks nearly unused. Has 96k on it.

Yes there were cel for maf sputter got better when I replaced it I thought about the turbo but it will spool and the car will run great but after it runs for a while and I park it or gets low on gas it sputters and when I put more gas it sputters it has a maf then a airbox with filter and it just has a hole at the end this is definitely not correct right the car appears stock but has a really large muffler by a company called ractive I planned on replacing that.also I.drove it the other day and it ran perfect no stall or sputters but I parked it and put some gas and it started acting up it wouldnt get over 3000 rpm after a while it started going again also the intercooler had dirt a bunch of dirt on it thats why I took it off originally someone told me to check the fuel filter and when I cleaned the intercool I changed the oil nothing there but oil that I saw

Fuel filter can cause it to bog like that. What grade of gas do you run?

when my Forced Performance turbo started failing, I wasn't getting sputtering. But it was harder to get the engine to breath due to a bad turbo. Plus it was smoking like crazy...Dragon, is there white/black/blue smoke coming out of the exhaust when this happens?? Must there be a load on the engine to make this happen? Like, if your parked, in neutral / park, or the clutch in, can you rev it freely. ?? does it rev passed 3500rpms not moving, but wont drive passed 3500 rpms???? If it revs fine, but wont drive fine, I would seriously check into your fuel delivery system. Either pump/clogged line?!?!/filter, etc.. or even injectors... ive had race cars rev PERFECT in the shop.. then once on the track they ran crappy, and had issues reaching operating speeds, turned out, the filter was in backwards... ehehhehe not laffing at you, just something too think about. If your fuel pump is on its last leg, it could work for 2 hours with no issues, then start to not supply enough pressure..... not too terrible hard to replace either.. just my $.02

I try to run premium all the time and it will blow some smoke when it sputters as for the rev it usaully does ok in first or neutral but sometime sputters still

Timing is good but another question I have is how much oil it can hold because I put 7 quarts in mine and it still doesnt show it full
