Anchorage, Alaska
Hey guys I'm new to Alaska and new to the dsm community. I've been in alaska for almost 2 years now and the first thing I noticed moving up here was that 90 octane seems to be the highest I can find in anchorage. I used to ride a crotch rocket and wouldn't put anything below 93 in it so I was wondering what you local guys do to counter this? Are you guys running meth injection or wasting money on octane booster? I want to meth inject mine mainly for this reason but I also feel that I probably don't need to. My car currently has 255 walboro, 650cc injectors, got a bunch of cheap cxracing stuff. I think the previous owner bought their 16g turbo kit and FMIC kit as well as their aluminum radiator. I've got an evo 3 16g coming in soon to replace the other turbo and probably gonna have a 1g ported exhaust manifold to accompany the turbo as the cxracing manifold has a crack in it. Just thought I'd ask if it's really necessary with this setup or should I just wait till I have time and money to upgrade for more power?

Best thing to do is get it retune for that gas and as you may know power will be lower but it will be safer with a tune to that oct.

A lot of people go the meth injection route but like clipto said as long as your tune is configured for the lower octane you will be fine aside from the reduced power levels. On the flip side if you ever have the balls to drive your car when it is -20 degrees you can boost to the moon with no knock LOL

Lol I'm probably gonna get a meth kit down the road then but I'm pretty sure it's tuned for the 90 grade. I've never tuned a car and have been trying to read up on what needs to be done.

@ AK Maniak: Do you know any shop around the anchorage or valley area that has experience with DSMlink? I saw P3 out in the valley, are they worth the drive out there to get it tuned?

P3 is the only shop that I would let touch my DSM. They also have the only AWD dyno in the state. But seth knows what he is doing and is very familiar with DSMlink

Nice! Thanks for the info I just got my evo 3 16g installed the other day and thought my chinese 16g went out cause the shop I took it to also said the same thing. They noted restrictive exhaust flow and when I asked if they checked the cat on it and they told me there is no cat but it's a resonator. But in fact there is a cat and it is clogged. I put my evo 3 on and almost cried when it didn't spool LOL. Went home took the down pipe off and took it for a drive and what do you know I got boost! :hellyeah: :D But anyways I guess I'll have to take mine out there soon to get them to fine tune mine as it is running a little too rich I feel. Thanks again!

In Palmer, there is a gas station that sells 110LL (leaded jet fuel) straight out of the pump. I can't remember how much it cost but that is some pretty potent fuel. Leaded fuels will put a lot more wear and tear on your o2 Sensors but other than that it shouldn't hurt anything other than your wallet.

You talking about the place basically across from fair grounds. I'm almost sure it closed up. I used get some of that occasionally when was up that way but it was so expensive. There's supposed to be a place on Muldoon that sells some kind of high octane race gas. Have heard guys on old AKMS board talk about it. I'm sure if asked on new MSAK somebody would tell you where its at.

Yea that's the place, didn't realize it was closed down LOL. I'll ask the guys on MSAK and let you know what I find out.

I'll have to check that out I'd like to see what some high octane would do.

Has anybody taken the plunge & went their yet & bought some 104?

I haven't but I've talked to a few people that have. Just go in and ask and then they have a pump around back for it.

If you haven't already joined, there is a Facebook group called Alaska Tuner Catalog. Good place to ask questions as its a local group.
