I know this has been covered somewhere before but I could not find the thread on it. I have a manual 1990 Talon and I need to but a 1992 trans in the car. I already have a 23 spline transfer case. What else do I need to put the 92 trans in? Will my shifter and linkage still work? Sorry for the newb questions guys.

Did you put a 92 trans in a 90 car?

No I put a 93 into my 92 while using a n/t shifter base and cables and found I had the n/t bracket on for the shifter cables then got a 90 bracket and then found I only had one gear because the 90's were different then the 91+. I'm probably going to have to swap to a pure 90 setup.

NT and turbo shifter and cables are the same, just a change between 1990 and 1991 up.

Ok good to know, I didn't see a difference between them when i did compare the two but its always good to get conformation.

I was able to just change the cable bracket and the shifter arm on the trans, then I adjusted the cables on my linkage and it shifts fine.

Good to know. Ill have to find the shifter arm and the bracket.

Anyone have a 91 and up shifter arm and cable bracket they want to get rid of?? I can PayPal right away.

Quick question. So you put a 90 shifter arm and cable bracket on the 91+ trans and it was fine with the 90 cables and shifter? Which arm? There are 2 arms on the trans?

I really dont want to change my shifter and cables if i dont have to. Does anyone else have input on this?

The one attached with a roll pin to the shift shaft.

Yeah its the one that has the roll pin holding it to the rod that shifts the gears. I have no issues shifting at all, you may have to adjust the cables at the shifter but thats all I did and it works great. Just make sure if your car is a 90 your using the 90 shifter arm and bracket.

Thanks guys! I'll swap that arm out, find a 1990 cable bracket and then I can finally put the trans in.

Thats not a roll pin, it's a lock pin. It's removable but the last time I tried a 20 ton press wouldn't budge it. It is tapered and only goes out one way.

I have done it 4 different times with a punch and a hammer. btw change both the arms. Make sure you have something under the arm to take the impact when hitting it.

Ok cool. Ill replace both arms along with the bracket.
