I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

If he says the bearing are bad i wouldn't give him $3400 for it. Go check the car out, see what shape it's in and how it runs. Probably will run rough and will be making a knocking noise. Now to answer your question in my experience it has never just been that just the bearings went bad. To give you a short answer you need to pull the bottom end apart and make sure its just the bearing and not anything else. If you know what your doing it shouldn't take too long. Me personally i would just rip that motor out and rebuild it. You cant really go off one peoples words that this or that happened. Once you rip it apart you will either be happy cause you got a good deal on the car when he lowers the price or you will be kicking yourself in the head cause the bottom end is trashed. For me anything under $2000 is a good deal depending on the shape of the car with bottom end noise.

These cars are getting hard to find if it's in really nice shape I would go 3000, that's if it's really really nice if it's a junk box then it's just a parts car and those are 1500 if it's in good shape.

I just bought a 96 gsx awd turbo 5 speed for 2k$ about a month ago. Bad ECU sticking theromstat and blown rear shocks. I drove it home. The car is a 7 out of 10 imo. Dents dings, a little clear coat fade and normal wear. I would not pay 3400 for a dsm with a blown motor unless it had a boat load of mods done too it. For 3400 you can find a decent 2g or a really nice 1g.

Strictly looking for opinions.

See profile for details. 1997 AWD Spyder rust free Florida car 6 bolt 2.3 stroker 20g cams and supporting mods.

The engine burns oil so will be removed and rebuilt. I Also have a good stock 7 bolt.

If I were to sell this what should I ask with stock 7 bolt - assume all go fast mods removed except exhaust.

What should I ask with the 2.3 installed back - estimated current HP around 350- 400.

If I sold the car with the stock 7 bolt what would the 6 bolt 2.3 with cams evo exhaust manifold, evo intake manifold, 20g, and HKS cams be worth?

Hello. This is my first post on here and I was wondering whether or not I should buy this 1993 Eagle Talon. It is an AWD 2.0 turbo with a 5-speed manual. It has 116k on the od.
My cousin is selling his talon for $400. Now $400 may seem incredible, BUT is has some issues:
-Doesn't run. It cranks and starts with the aid of some carb cleaner, but dies shortly after. this leads us to believe that it has something to do with the fuel supply.
-Cracked exhaust manifold. Easy fix...
-Interior is TRASHED!!! It sat in a barn for about a year prior to where it is now (in a garage) and some animals got into it and lived in it for a while.
-Might need a new tranny. Story goes like this: he was driving it to the DMV to get new tags for the plates. About a mile down the road the tranny starts clicking, so he turns around and goes home-afraid of grenading it. For all we know, it could need a whole new tranny or is just low on fluid. Used trannys are F***ing expensive!

However, he is including many performance parts:
-New header-back 3" exhaust
-New ECU
-New performance fuel pump
-K&N air filter
-Many, Many other parts (don't know off the top of my head)

I know this may seem like a no-brainer, but I am 17 and broke as a joke. Been looking for a job, but for the moment, it would take all of my money just to buy it. Let alone, have money to pay for gas for my jeep. (10 mpg)

I would really appreciate some helpful feedback regarding the purchase and/or fixing up the car. THANKS!!!

"your broke as a joke.." implies that you are not capable of owning a dsm, and there for you will be giving DSM a bad name because you will half ass and buy non quality parts and then blame the dsm for being a shitty car when in turn it is because you bought a car broken and had no money to legit fix it.

I say no.

Sorry to sound like a dick but if you can't afford a $400 car, you CAN'T afford to fix the car or even do a 40$ oil change..

$400 is a very good price, but only if you are getting something of value in return. From what you describe, this car is going to cost much more to bring back to road-worthiness.

Transmissions usually don't 'click'. However, bad engine bearings 'knock'. Bad clutches can make some noise as well. But a 5-speed trans should have held up just fine and is probably not the source of the noise.

Although it is a pain to get 10mpg in the jeep, at least it is rolling. Buy the 1G if you have the $400 and start by cleaning the interior -- that part is just labor on your part.

Have a mechanic or friend determine if the clutch or engine bearings need attention, and then save up to get that problem fixed.

You have to understand, with a DSM, you're never 'done' buying parts, you're just trying to sove the next challenge that comes along, and hopefully make it go and stop better with each part purchased.

Anyway you look at it 400 is a deal. U could part it out and make money on it. And a clicking noise, cv axles click when they go bad. What im trying to say is it could be a cheap fix and if not you can still make money on it from the parts. Sounds like a win win.

All,

Been out of the game for awhile. Looking to buy a 97 GSX with 140K miles from a dealership (big name). Carfax checks out and from the pictures, it looks clean with no mods. I'm about 1600 miles away and would have to either pick it up or ship it. Couple of questions, there asking for about $6K while edmunds is saying good retail 3K, so would 4.5K be a fair price? Second, would you purchase it before test driving it or such..I know didn't do this with my Evo, but it is quite a distance and finally, would you drive it 1,600 miles cross country?

Thanks!

was wondering a good price to pay for this car its a 99 GST has 80000 miles on body, but it has a blown motor. He has a spare block with head and all internals that i was told were good (measureed the top of the cylinders and they are stock specks with cross hashes in the bore, so it could be bored out if that is all that is wrong with it, but would have to get it checked out) but i have to take his word on it it is out of a 98 gst i did run the vin.

I agree with the price stated if the strut towers have no rust. If they are than I would look elsewhere.

Yea price varies greatly depending on the location. I've seen running DSM's go for 500 as well as shells go for more than 500. In all honesty I think anything under 1000 would be a decent deal. I'm sure others will disagree but all that matters is what it is worth to you.

That would easily bring $1500 around here.

Ive never been to Wampum PA but I just picked up a 2g awd turbo running an drove it an hour and half home from New Castle which is north of Pittsburgh. I would not pay more then a grand for that. Your doing someone a favor by dragging it out of their drive way and taking the time to rebuild it. You will have a lot of time and money into it so the initial cost should be cheap. Id say 600-800 would be fair unless you had to have it.
