Can I get away with no gasket between exhaust manifold and turbo?

I am running an MHI E316g turbo on my GVR4. I just removed my exhaust manifold to do some other work and noticed that the turbo to exhaust manifold gasket was cracked.

I know that the gasket is cheap, but I need the car up tomorrow and don't want to have to put it all back together only to take it apart for a silly gasket while I wait for it to come in the mail.

I have been searching around, and it seems that quite a few people don't bother using a gasket there and that it doesn't leak.

I'd like to do that if if I can.

Thoughts please??

^ heat right off your exhaust mani floating around in your engine bay getting it nice and hot. Patch it together to get you where you need to go. You didn't know it was cracked before? Usually you have the part before you tear down. Especially a DD. You should have heard it unless you accidently tore it.

No noise whatsoever. No chance that I could have torn it either. It was cracked in multiple places. Maybe the cracks aren't enough for a leak?

You've got that right. Now nothing will get bolts remains out now. Soaking them 24 hours in deep creep, liquid wrench, etc does nothing.

Easy out has been useless as well as torching the remains with map gas. I finally decided it was better to get it off so I could better focus on it.

I had no reason to think that a gasket that I reinstalled just 6 months ago would be cracked. I have read that you aren't supposed to reinstall them. Guess that is my fault.
 
By the way, are the "tabs" on the side of the gasket supposed to face upwards or downwards...or does it matter?
 
Wouldn't reckon it would matter. As long as the holes line up

If it didn't "leak" before put it back on. Just know you need to replace it ASAP

Usually with an exhaust leak, it will accumulate suut (sp?) around the edges of where it's leaking. Just a tip :)

In my younger days, i put black rtv gasket maker between the exhaust manifold and turbine housing and it worked really well.

Well I have permatex the right stuff laying around. It has served the J-pipe connection at the turbo just fine forever.

BTW, can I just call my dealer and ask them if they by some weird chance have "MD171220" in stock?

Is that the right part number for this application. My search shows that it is.
 
Iv'e used the orange high temp permatex rtv with great sucess on exhasut/turbo manifold flanges ect. No leaks 7 bucks or something like that , give it a try.
 
I have heard of some people using thick grease between the exhaust manifold and the turbo and then letting the car idle for alittle bit, to cook the grease and from a gasket like that.
