I have a 3 bolt manual rear end from a 90 or 91 talon. I would like to know If I can take 2g auto rear end ring and pinion and carrier and swap the guts. The 2g auto is an lsd 4 bolt.

I have hear of guys swapping 4 bolt guts into a 3 bolt. But wasn't sure about auto to manual, and 2g to 1g.

If its not possible the car is getting a chromoly rear sub any how so I will make it around the 2g housing.
 
Are you doing some sort of manual swap? They are different gear ratios so even if you could, you would need to swap the transmission to the appropriate one.
 
I believe you can just swap the ring, and pinion gears, and leave everything else the same. I know you can generation, to generation, not sure if the ring and pinion gears are the same 90-99.
For example. If you have a 4 bolt manual rear, and are doing an auto swap, you can keep the 4 bolt axles no matter what the auto came with as long as you use the 4 bolt manual housing, LSD, and axles, and swap the auto ring and pinion gear into the housing.
 
I have an interesting setup to say the least. I have a 91 gallant vr4, I am going to put in a 2g auto, 2g auto transfer case, and I think I have to have a 1g rear end housing in the car, so I was wanting to swap the 2g auto insides for the 1g manual insides.
 
Probably can't do that swap. Lsd insides need to go inside lsd cases. Supposedly there isn't clearance for the lsd. I've not tried it, so it may work, just be prepared for it not too. Also if you have a gvr4 rear in it now you can't put a lsd in there because of the awd steering pump, unless you swap the drive gear over.

You can put the auto gears in the gvr4 rear.

If you have a 3bolt lsd rear in the car you can put the 2g stuff in it but you will need 4bolt axles.
 
You can still have the lsd with the galant vr4. I did it. You just have to swap over the gear ring that drives the 4ws pump in the rear end. It can be done and if you want to keep the 4ws you can.
