Picked up my car after some work and a dyno tune yesterday and it was running flawlessly. Did a few pulls and as I was slowing down approaching a red light, it felt like someone had locked on the brakes as the car stalled out while coming to a stop. Got out and tried to push it and I couldn't get it to budge more than an inch.

After getting it towed back to the shop, the mechanics jacked the back end of the car off the ground and confirmed the rear wheels spun fine, however when they lifted the front end and spun the wheels they would only rotate partially and would then bind and pretty much lock up completely.

Tranny is getting dropped out for inspection but I'm curious if anyone has ever dealt with this before (haven't been successful with any searches) and if so what the cause is or may be?

Pull transmission then youll know more could be transmission issue, transfer case we don't know yet.

Remember, your're an AWD unit with a viscous coupler in the tranny - why you couldn't push it since all axles had locked up.

Rear axle locked up causing the coupler to lock up the front axles.

Check into the coupler .. it could have gone bad on you.

Or, you could have a low tire that caused one axle to turn at different RPM and this will cause the coupler to lock up quite easily.

The rear wheels turn fine though, we verified that it's indeed only the front wheels which lock up. Wouldn't a bad VC cause the rears to also lock up?

Even if the vc was locked it wouldnt stop the car from rolling or driving, it would be the same as using a vc eliminator or welding the vc.

Ended up being a broken CV, however the shop who swapped in a new rear end for me didn't put any fluid in it so it's trashed.
