After a rather disappointing and aggravating trip to the shootout and the transmissions shifting like complete dogshit and locking me out of second, I decided to tear it apart and go faceplatted (my mustang friend has been pushing me to do it LOL). Still getting a hang of the trans but tonight I hit the track with only my 3rd time racing the car with this trans and managed my own personal best, I was expecting to run 10.9@130 needless to say I was pleasantly surprised :D.

Car has a 56mm 6blade HX40 in a 70A/R T3, still running a 2G maf, a small 7inchX3.5 inch old buschur style core, Bone stock 6bolt bottom end down to the balance shafts, stock head, ARP studs, cams and springs. 93octane and meth

Drove 45mins to the track and home in one piece.

Dang. Pretty good time right there. I was gonna try a high 9 sec build with a 40 but switched to a 6262. That however is one Sexy 1g. Props sir

The company is called liberty gear, they do a lot of BIG power RWD transmissions. They also offer a process for our gearsets and honda gearsets its basically a dog style engagement trans but it utalizes factory gears. I just had them also shotpeen the gears because the process seems really good. I believe I paid 780shipped to have everything done. You gotta assemble it yourself, tach on prices for bearings and such as well I ###### got about 1100 into the trans. I also heard the company sometimes can take months on turn around time, but it took me exactly 20 days from when they recieved my gears to when i got them back.

Driving it around is a complete pain in the ass, I think I shimmed mine way to tight.

I also have a faceplated trans, for people that haven't ever tried one I would recommend it to anyone
that doesn't daily drive their car. They shift awesome! It takes a little getting used to but it becomes second nature in no time. A couple tips to make street driving easier is rev matching downshifts and for
upshifts just cruising I shift with 2 distinct movements, shift from gear to neutral pause then shift into next gear and that keeps it pretty quiet, again this is just when cruising. Banging a gear every shift got annoying very quickly. Slow shifts in 1 motion make a lot of noise and banging gears at every gear change sucks, LOL.

Hmm that's interesting. So do you just send them the gear sets still assembled and they send them back that way. Seems like a great price to have better high rpm shifting!!

You pull the gears off the shafts and send them the gears. They make you hub and sliders and weld the engagement dogs to the gears. I also would recommend to send them the center diff and input shaft and intermediate shaft to get shotpeened as well. I would recommend getting magnus forks if you can get your hands on them. Offcourse when I needed to get them they were no longer in production so I had to use the stock shift forks :( feel like im driving a ticking time bomb. It obviously goes without saying that this is still a stock gear set, so you are still limited on the load the gears can actually handle. I personally still dont know how to race this trans well, the idea of shifting it as fast as you want and you wont miss still hasnt set in my mind yet LOL.

BTW I sent them the 91Early-mid92 gearset (the one that has the 2 hole 3-4 shift fork.) Not sure if they can do the later gearset.

Here is my gearset.

Beat 10.33 and 137 and you'll have the quickest hx 40 stock block combo ;). Congratulations, that things moving.

Thank you! I still got a ways to go, its hard having no safety shit in the car and getting hasled everytime so i try not to go too often gave them time to forget the car LOL.
Ditch the 2g MAF and swap to speed density and I bet you would have all the potential for the new stock block hx40 record :thumb:

Ive been wanting to ditch the maf, but the maf clamp function seems to be working well. Im gonna get a few little things and see what shell do.
