All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

Yeah. I hear ya. But I had the same problem. It was my coolant sensor. What kind of a fuel pump you on? Post a video of the fuel pump?

Thats what I was about to say. Or fuelfilter. Wipe everything. Ri. The car and check for any leaks. Thats what I did. Found my injector ring on the top was little rotted. Fixed my problem.

How do I check that?
Unforunately our dsm's don't have a fuel pressure check port like other cars do. So to check fp you have to buy and install a special adapter to put on the filter or rail and connect a gauge to it.

But some things you can do without doing that:
1) After it sits for an hour (or whatever it takes to get the not starting problem), spray some starting fluid into the throttle body (or cylinders) to see if that will get it going. If so then you definately have a fuel problem - most likely not enough pressure due to leaky fpr (fuel pressure regulator) or faulty fuel pump check valve, or clogged fuel filter (clogged filter usually will present other problems while accelerating and normal running however).

2) The most common problem is a leaking fpr so just replace it and see. They are not that expensive. Beware when unbolting fuel will squirt out so relieve pressure per manual first (and read item 4 below).

3) Do some of the things here under "Checking for fuel": http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/217951-how-diagnose-no-start.html.

4) As a last resort: After waiting the required time disconnect the fpr from the rail to see if pressure is there. This is course VERY dangerous as fuel is going to spray out (at > 43psi if fpr is working) so you must be prepared with rags, a bottle, wear an eye mask, have fire extenguisher ready, do outside, etc.

Im having an issue with a no start I cannot diagnose. The car has fuel, it has spark, the battery tested to 11.9 volts with 490 cca out of 720; but was charged and brought back to 12.5 and said to be all the cca. Symptoms: The motor turns slowly. Like I stated I have fuel and spark both. I have changed mpi relay, checked all fuses, obdII, IAC, Ignition switch, crank sensor, fuel pump, and still nothing is turning this car on. It happened after installing a radio into the car for further detail. Someone please help because I am searching and searching ad finding no answers to my problem. cars a 96 eclipse gst

Well here's a a twist. This morning after 10 hours of not starting, it started right up. So I drive to school and come out. And then it does it again. I recorded it. [ame=http://youtu.be/7r0j2zPjW7M]Eclipse starting problem. - YouTube[/ame]
It also seems that the idle is a bit high, when I get home from work I all check the fpr etc

I would check fuse/relay first. And if those are good, make sure it is getting a signal to activate the relay.

Ok so I just got my car back in 1 piece and going to start it and having no luck I'm not getting spark I put new ngx iridium ix plugs gap is correct just put a new coil in tried 2 different cam angle sensors new wires ecu looks to be good and all I'm getting is cranking I don't know what to do has anyone had this problem I'm lost and I'm getting fuel through the rail please help

I would check the wires for the coolant temp sensor. Seems like it's the normal culprit. I would also get rid of those iridium plugs. Thats not the problem but these engines seem to run better on the copper plugs.

+1 on getting copper plugs, I don't think a bad or bad connection to the coolant temp sensor would cause a no spark.

I'd try the power transistor next. Seems to be the only thing you haven't checked.

So heres the deal.
I have a 99 eclipse gs and im having a very annoying no start problem.
One day my brother was driving my car and he told me the steering wheel was hard to turn. I looked under the hood and the power steering belt was completely missing. My bro tried to start the car but all it did was crank. After a couple of cranks we gave up and pushed the car to my house. I replaced the belt and it still wouldnt fire up. I then checked for fuel and replaced my filter and everything was fine. I unplugged the fuel line and turned the key to the ON position and fuel squirted out so its not the fuel pump. I then checked for spark and everything was fine i even replaced the spark plugs and gapped them accordingly. I then bought some starting fluid from autozone and sprayed it in the intake while cranking and the car fired up but soon died after the fluid burned. The car was working fine so i dont think its the injectors can someone give me advice? :(

I had a similar problem happen to me on my 420a engine. For some reason when my power-steering snapped my cam gear broke free of the cam shaft (there is a little pin that makes both turn at the same time). So it looked like the engine was cranking, but the cam was not moving. Not sure if that is your problem but it is something to look at if you have tried everything else. Such as coil pack, plug wires, spark plugs, injectors.
