Whats up fellow tuners. I was at the junkyard today and i came across a 2002 Dodge Stratus SXT. That car has the 2.4 dohc, i was wondering which year cars has the motor that swaps to our cars? From what i can remember it was 95-00. I talked to the guy who runs the junkyard and he said that he would sell that complete motor to me for $200.00. Anybody with info on this topic please reply cause i would like to 2.4 swap my car :D

Thanks

Ok so after a bunch of research and a headache LOL i came to the conclusion that a 2002 is the latest model 2.4 edz that can be swapped into a 2gnt because in 03-06 they use a different crank sensor style that is not compatible with our cars. Since this car was made in 12/02 would that be considered an 02? or an 03? because it was made after 08/12?????

Check the vin on the vehicle the 10th digit to be precise. If it is a 2002 it should read 2 as the 10th digit and so on the only differences for years in the 2000 range are Y for 2000.

Hope that helps a little if needed there is a vin year chart on wiki Vehicle Identification Number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Good luck

awesome:thumb: tahnks for the info. I havent even gone back to look at the junkyard to look at the motor or anything. I plan on going back there within a week so ill check all that stuff out. hopefully this is the right one

ok so a different junkyard by my house had a ten dollar day so i went to check it out. when i got there i found a 1998 plymouth breeze with the 2.4. I took the valve cover off and the head had been rebuilt with pt cruiser style valvetrain. After i saw the head was in good shape i pulled the whole motor. So now i got a 2.4 swap for only 50 dollars total. so im pretty stoked to start this project.

Damn, $50 for an entire engine. That is a deal! Best of luck with your project!

You can build those 2.4L's pretty good. My boyfriend's Dodge Daytona is running an early stratus engine; but with built internals. He's gone 10.5@140mph with it. :)

If you go with a 2.4 NA your first priority should be a long rod conversion, they are made by forward motion. Its a little longer rod for better piston/rod ratio which makes revving it out a little easier on the engine! They have some aluminum rods(I plan on getting these but am trying to find some decent reviews on them) and they have steel ones. The steel ones run close to 1k. Then you have to run their custom piston as well. It gets pricey but is well worth it imo.

Here's what I was talking about earlier.

The cam magnet position is different on the 2.4L cams vs the 2.0L cams; it's 90 degrees out since the crank trigger is different (if I recall correctly). You're just changing the timing of events by switching injector clips and rotating the cam magnet. I'm not sure what wiring is like on a DSM for a Stratus ECU but I imagine it isn't easy. Neons usually run a stock ECU or Mopar ECU with either stock injectors and higher fuel pressure or 24lb injectors and stock fuel pressure. You might be able to get away with stock PCM doing the same mods. That, or go Megasquirt.
