This should be really simple. Shift quality has 0 to do with how much torque your motor makes. Hypothetically, you should be able to bolt the trans to a 9000hp dragster and still shift the same at the same RPM. That's because ALL the power transfer is supposed to stop at the flywheel as soon as the clutch is depressed. At that moment, the only variable factor influencing shift quality/speed is input/output shaft RPMs. So, either your syncro ring isn't slowing the gear (input shaft) down fast enough, or you have power transferring to the input shaft, not allowing it to slow down. The fact that you're grenading the trans in a single pass makes power transfer the only realistic possibility. AKA you're clutch, or clutch relater parts are the issue. Did you grease the input shaft to allow the clutch discs to slide properly? did you force the trans on and bend the discs? Somehow power is going into the trans with the clutch depressed, plain and simple.

400 miles
on my stage 3, resurfaced flywheel once. new disk and new fork and ball. no shim, no problems ;) fork does sit
a little away from the slave but i dont have any issues with anything and i still gotta properly adjust the clutch pedal.

I would love to know the result of this thread, although I suspect I already do. I am looking into purchasing a Shep trans for my car and boy can I tell you how my attitude changed from the beginning of the thread to the end of it!

I would like to take the time to THANK the DSM community for everything that it does for people they have never met. Free diagnosis and, if people just listen, excellent advice.

I am going to go ahead and purchase a Shep trans now *used of course because I am confident that it works and is a proven part for our cars.

I wonder what the final result was for the OP. Was the issue ever corrected? :hmm:

Went automatic and will never look back.

Auto is boring.

Some people would disagree with you. A buddy of mine after going low 10s for while wanted something that would break less. Swapped to auto and he says he enjoyed driving the car a lot more! It was a 5 spd car so he had to manually shift but it was less hassle to drive a 700 whp car on the street.

Ive ALMOST put some serious thought into converting my spyder. Maybe some day down the road but for now, 5 speed for this guy. I definitely dont have the funds for a shep trans. So, Im either picking up parts from Jacks or Tim and assembling a trans myself.

Autos have there problems as well its not an end all to breakage. IMO manual is the way to go. Just makes for a better driving expereance with the car. Devins car is a full shep dog box. There is really no more upgrading that cars drive train.
