First off I am not sure which forum to put this in because it has to do with both. Sorry if this is the wrong place.

I am working on figuring out everything for megasquirt my 420a. I want to completely get rid of the stock ecu, but. I would like to keep things like cruise control and a/c because it is a daily driver and would like to keep it that way.

I have got a lot figured out how to keep everything. Right now I am working on the cruise control. I know on the 420a the cruise control is ran by the engine ECU but however, the 4g63 the cruise control is ran by it's own ecu. Could it be possible to use the 4g63 cruise control ecu in my car. I've looked at a diagram and only thing I see it hook up to is the TPS and the VSS. Are the signals the same on these sensors as the 420a sensors. If not, is it possible to use the 4g63 sensors on my car seeing that I am going to be running megasquirt.

Also does anyone have a auto-cruise control system ECU pin out for the 4g63?

Thanks.

Very interesting idea. No one running stand alone MS is running cruise control that I know of. This would be sweet if it works. The 420a and 4g63 use a 0-5v TPS so that shouldnt be a problem. The speedsensor is a different story. You wont be able to use a 4g63 one, the 4g63 provides a ground signal as it rotates. (A square wave) and this tells the ECU,TCU,CC, and Speedo how fast your going. Im not sure if the 420a speedo works exactly like this or not. I would just try it and see.

That's good to know about the TPS will work just fine. I guess the speed sensor is what I have to figure out. From what I can tell in the diagram those were the only two sensors it uses on the engine. It shows that it is a 26 pin connector on the auto-cruise control ecu. But the with the diagram I was still missing about 10 pins, I know that all could not be used but really need a pin out.

It would be awesome to get megasquirt to need a completely stand alone and still have a/c and cruise control. The power steering pump is next that one looks simple to do worse come to worse I know that is mainly for parking lots.

Well after asking around I figured out the signal for the VSS in the 420a.

420a VSS signal
- hall-effect sensor
- 5V square wave
- 8 pulses per revolution

4g63 VSS signal
- hall-effect sensor
- 5V square wave
- 4 pulses per revolution

So if I understand that correctly the auto-cruise control system ECU will see the 420a VSS signal as if the car is doing double the speed, right ?

Or could my idea work?

Not yet. I have been stuck in Texas so haven't got to try it out yet. I did run into another problem withe the TPS. on the 4g63 it has a 4th wire that goes to an idle switch that the cruise ecu needs and on the 420a it doesn't have this. I'm sure I can figure out a way around this.

I'm hoping the computer will still run without this but if it doesn't I'm sure if I figure out what signal is there I can here megasquirt to do that signal.
