I just received my rebuilt cylinder head today and after unpacking it found two holes in the sealing surface very close to the combustion chamber. Do you think this will be an issue or will the standard oem composite head gasket seal this up?

Uhhh... I'm no expert, but I'm 99.95% positive thats gonna be a problem or 20.

Who did that???

I wouldn't install that head. Did you have the head repaired? (Like material welde) What is the total head thickness?

Got it from a member on here, BogusSvo. He has or works at a machine shop and rebuilds 4g63 heads. I have contacted him and am awaiting a reply.

here is a link to the ad I bought the head from. Rebuilt 2g 7 Bolt head - DSM Classifieds It shows it was measured at 5.198 thickness

Nope not an issue, that is a factory casting flaw

Upon a second look, I'm guessing those are flash shadows. They looked like straight up holes. That would be a different situation LOL.

If bogus says its g2g, its g2g.

It maybe the angle the picture was taken from but isn't the second one very close to the sealing ring of the HG? But i guess you did check that after milling the head.

Sorry but the add says the core must have a min thickness of "1)It has to be a min thickness of 5.190".

I would not even think about putting this on my car...it is toast.....toast ...toast.

I cannot believe someone would sell this as a working head.....especially for $400

I may be missing something, tend to second guess myself when a "wiseman" says something. But this time I have to respectfully disagree with BOGUSSVO, The head should be repaired prior to installation....

My cylinder head had the same casting issue and still running it on my car and I have a cometic mls. Full compression across the board at 180-185 +or- difference of 5 psi across the board. I questioned it at first but you really have to look at all the variables. I really wouldn't question bogus as mine are almost at the exact same spot.

Yah, I know BogusSVO would not say something that is not true, but I think the head has been milled too far.

If the re-builder accepts heads that have been milled to 5.190 and he has to mill them again the head could have issues....I would not be comfortable with it. Plus the photo in the add does not show this casting issue, which I think is deceptive.

Actually, that head is fat. It measures out at 5.195 and has 46.5cc combustion chambers.

The factory flaws are inside the fire ring, so no sealing issues

This head is what I call a stock replacement head.

How many other head builders provide the specs as far as head thickness and combustion chamber volume?

I actually have the head back, so it is a non issue.

But a few more pic...

Like I have said before, It is a just a minor casting flaw. My guess would be is the sand mold that was used had an imperfection, or it is a result of an air bubble from when the melted aluminum was pored.

If I though it would have been an issue to the longevity of the engine, or would have hindered performance, it would have hit the scrap pile.

Now would this casting been built for a higher HP build? No.

But for a stockish replacement on a 400hp and under, not a single issue in bolting it down and boosting it.

Want a real sad story? I was sent in a head, soon as I flipped it over I knew it was junk.

This head came loaded with K272 cams and ST single springs. Also it was just recently built.

That's not the worst of it, the head thickness was measured at 5.142 - 5.153,
Now that is way past spec, and milled on a slant!

The car did not make it backed out the shop bay when it bent valves.

Remove a friends head from his car 99 GSX First Owner 79k and it looked like that. No Problems with it, Runs 9 but I will be welding the cast holes next time
