Why repaint? What color are you going to repaint it?

BTW I love the old Datsun Z cars, I think this is going to be an excellent car once completed as well. The 4G63 has got to be a good bit lighter than the old L28. Curious is price the only reason you went with the W58 trains? Because if memory serves (when I owned an 87 turbo supra) the R-158 (I think thats right) trans is a good bit longer, and would put the shifter much closer to the stock location in the Z.

Also what are you doing about the rear end and suspension? I'll be following your build as I absolutely love the old Z's and obviously I'm a fan of the 4G63.

The r154's have about 4-5 inche longer shifter base which still doesn't solve the length difference. The w58 are actually a much better tran then people think they are, I know guys pumping 700hp through them and not missing a beat. If alex knows which year the trans is the later model w58's (found in lexus models) has a longer tail end which puts the shifter back another 4ish inches from where the earlier w58 models (83-91ish I believe) shifters are. Both gen w58 tail housings are completely interchange-able, unbolt and rebolt. The later gens are the better of the w58's Toyota made some tweaks through the years.....believe the w58's are still being made by Toyota.

I was pumped when I started seeing z series builds, love the z models earier the better! You guys rock. Been trying to convince my little bro to put a 4g63 in his in his miata.....would be so bad ass.

Id go 4g63t :p keep the weight as low as possible LOL. But if not id pick the 2jz over a v8 any day. Just waiting on parts and the weekend to come so i can actually touch it. I need to mount my intercooler already, Its HUGE. 3"x12"x31"

Yea a 2jz would be nice besides finding one for decent price, but a v8 would be nice also. Gotta love the instant torque a v8 will throw at ya, and Chevy parts fall out of the sky for you too:).
Definitely get some pics of that intercooler, what brand did u go with.

Haven't been able to do much between school, work, and personal life stuff. Been working on little things that need to get done but not worth mentioning LOL. Here are some pics of the intercooler and the cold side of the piping (can't do the hot side yet because i don't have a turbo or manifold). I had to dent the wheel well a bit in order to fit the 45 degree bend. After some paint it should look nice. NOTE: the intercooler is not mounted yet, just chilling there.

The car will be a darker shade of purple when i paint it. i want to get it as black as possible with only a hint of pearl. I will add way less pearl to the clear when i do the whole car.

Im sorry for the lack of updates. Ive been really busy latelu and dont have much timeor energy to work on it. Ive only done little things like bleed the brakes and clutch and started putting the interior back in the car, which is easy condidering there will only be the dashboard, seats anf seat belts LOL. Hopefully i can get some body work done after new years. I havent given up guys, just been really busy with school, gym, work and the girlfriend.

Ive made some progress with the car... i should have the exhaust done either this or next weekend, hopefully. Hardly have time to work on it but its going along. Also i welded the diff, but i forgot to take pictures :ohdamn:. Heres a teaser pic...

Keep in mind this it the first time i ever made an exhaust, let me know what you guys think. oh and its a 3" turbo back :D, and all V-band! ...PS ill try to post pictures of it installed in the next couple days.

Lookin good! If the back end is sealed up nice and tight I'd make a seperate v band "section" and just have a turn down where it goes into the two 90's at the back. Then if emissions are required you could swap it to run all the way back to exit out at the bumper. It just seems like a lot of sharp bends.

Looks awesome though, man. Always look forward to seeing an update!

It is a lot of sharp bends but the way the car is its kinda the only way i could make the exhaust because i need it to come out of the driver side and the exhaust comes down from the passengers side and i have to leave room for the gas tank so those 90s at the end are needed to fit the gas tank.

I do think ill do a cut out valve one day, using an external waste gate. And emissions aren't a concern because i have a guy that'll pass it for the right fee LOL

Once i come up with an idea for the hangers (might just go get some stock ones from cars at the junkyard), ill install it so you guys can see how it looks in the car.

Yeah, a cut out valve would be sweet! I figured the reason for the 90's was from the chassis design, and it looks really good. All the custom work going into this thing is amazing!
