I have a 99 eclipse gs. The 420a motor that came in the car is shot. I ripped it apart and it was bad. My pistons were decaying, the cylinder walls were chewed up. The motor isn't usable so I'm not gonna rebuild it. I know the evo 4 motor will fit in, but what transmission do I need for the swap to work ???

Are there any manual transmissions I can use? Like the 420a transmission with the 4g63 bell housing ?

Does the FWD bell housing for the 06-07 evo transmission line up with the manual transmission of the 420a 5-speed??? I want to complete my swap but don't want an automatic

on my 99 eclipse gs i wanna put the evo 4 motor in it. The mounts line up but i dont know what manual transmission i can use. What do i use???

Sorry to kill the joke, but Evo's only use Manual transmissions. Well, except the GTA, but point is you don't have to use an Auto trans. You'd never even find one. You can also use any Evo 4-9 engine. Your going to have to fabricate 3/4 of the motor mounts anyways, so what difference does it make.

Assuming Evo 4-9 all share the same bell housing pattern you could use a '00+ 4g64 transmission. But that wouldn't hold power very well and won't be any easier then using an Evo trans. I would look into using an Evo transmission modified for FWD use.

Sell your car and buy either an evo, or an eclipse with the 4g63t in it.

Making multiple threads about the same thing is annoying. You already pretty much got told and shown through other threads that its not going to work out well or it will cost 5 times more than just buying a turbo eclipse. Money management son, learn it.

It's not his fault, Aluminum has a really short half-life.

Im going to put a 454 into mine. With all the fwd running gear and trans I have currently, I'm going to start tomorrow. Ill let you know how it goes, I heard on the internet it just drops right in.

i bought the car off someone who must've not taken care of the motor. when i ripped it apart it was so bad, the dow pins were broken off in the head

would anyone also know about the wiring on this swap?

You would have to swap in an EVO ecu or some kind of stand alone and make a custom wiring harness. There aren't any instructions you would be one of the very few people to do it so for the most part your on your own with a project like this.

What theyre trying to tell you is that this is not a bolt in. Its totally custom and no different than dropping any motor into any car.the fact that its an evo motor isnt relevant in this case. This would be the work of a skilled fabricator. If you are that person go for it. Otherwise search for something else. No need to ask any further questions.

If you have to ask how to do something like this than you are In no way qualified to even think about it. If you want an Evo engine than buy a 3G or an Evo.

Wow, I've been gone for a few (maybe more) years and the same newbie questions :p I hope to not become the new Defiant
