Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

I've been searching off and on for a few months. I've read a bunch of old posts that there were a couple people that modified and sold 2g shifter assemblies that had shorter throws with built in shift stops. I've sent a few PMs to people that had spoken about selling them with no reply to date.

So, question is who still modifies and sells these shifter assemblies?

Maybe? I can't find the thread now but it said they required you to send the complete shifter assembly in. They would shorten the throw and add shift stops to prevent broken or bent shift forks.

Modifying the stock shifter is not hard. Raise the pivot point and extend anything below the pivot point on the shifter and that will shorten your forward/backwards throw. Same goes for the side to side throw.
I didn't add stops though to mine . Ill snap some pics of the one I modified at work. I'm too lazy to take my console out to take some pics. Be warned though, this is a permanent mod unless you can fab/weld.

Pics would be awesome. The shift stops are what I really am looking for though.

would you happen to be talking about a gated shifter? like some supercars have?

No, he's talking about shift stops. Adjustable plates that keep over-enthusiastic drivers from grenading their transmission by overthrowing the shifter.

I had one made by a guy named Maddog for my srt4. I dont know if he makes them for dsm's though...

I have also had a full shifter assem. Made by maddog, i looked on his site but he has nothing offered for dsms. The one shifter i got made by him was by far the best shifter i have EVERA HAD. had rod brake, 60-1. Had the rod extended 4" and powdercoated

I emailed maddog, he said he may start making dsm shifters in the spring. If he does, there will be no other brand worth considering. His shifters are that good.

Please post back if he does start making short throw shifters with stops. I would definitely support that product!

Alright, heres a stock shifter i modified. Moving the pivot point up for the forwards/backwards movement will shorten the throw. Moving the pivot point up for the side to side movement will shorten both the forwards/backwards and side to side movement. I dont think it would be too hard to weld in stops.

I would need an example of shift stops to recreate for this application.

SlowSpyder's shifter idea will work for the 1G shifters as well....the 2Gs look like the early Evo shifters...

The 1Gs had the stoppers right?

I did the same for my Galants.

Well, the stoppers could be added before or after the shifter is modified.

*pics below show only 3/4" is added. mine has 2.25" added... :thumb:
