Amazing build! I just put in a real 20g turbo opposed to eBay junk, but I wanted a holeset hx35. Your build is extensive. I'm excited to see what that hx 40 will do. All the hard work and especially the research on this site will pay off. Like you said do it right with the right parts once and you'll have a car that will last. So much eBay kaka out there and really think if you cheap out on parts it will cost you more in the future if not a catastrophic failure of some kind. I wanted to say how much these members have helped with questions and guidance they have given to you and everyone else. Keep at it and waiting for some more updates.

Thanks man. Definitely appreciate the support. Your absolutely correct about buying the right parts from the get go. It's a bit pricier, but quality is what you pay for. What did you upgrade to the 20g from? Hopefully this might be of guidance to someone on their build and help them get some ideas or information.

I'm going to try and fill in a lot of the voids that dont exist on here and I know people search like crazy for such as:
1. Showing how to wire in twin fuel pumps, and where to run the wiring and relays/fuses to use.
2. Holset results, i.e. when the car starts to hit boost, full boost, and what mods associated.
3. More extensive information on which wires can be de-pinned from the ECU for a wire tuck, and different lengths of wire to be used for the same thing.
4. An extensive battery relocation walkthrough with parts used and pictures.

Obviously more to come on that stuff, but I've been taking pictures of everything I've done so far, just haven't posted them up.

Some more updates. I've finally got the build finalized and just a matter of finishing up on ordering specific parts.

The newest changes are running a different fuel system which entails modifying the stock gas tank with a sump and then an 8an feed line into a y which then runs through parallel walbro 255HD pumps. Those both y back into an 8an feed into the filter and finally fuel rail. Also have given thoughts on buying a magnafuel 750 so I never have to upgrade again. Also changing over to high impedance 2150cc injectors. Planning on possibly running E85.

I've been reading more into the specific turbocharger compressor maps for the PTE6466 and FP3788R or FP3794R. Impressed by both and although a bit weary of the PTE reputation might give it a shot. Although the FP3794 is looking fun :). Hoping to have all of this together within a few weeks with plenty of pictures that I've taken but haven't posted yet.

Stay tuned for those pictures and some dyno sheets to follow.

I am watching this close i am as well going to use a hx40 and cant wait to see what it can do with my build

and just so you haters out there saying sell the holset you cant beat the cheap rebuild price unlike a precision

I plan on selling the holset setup. Which would include the drain tube, the feed line, turbocharger itself, and the divided T3 manifold. Everything pretty much needed to get the turbocharger installed.

A quick update. Got the block back from English Racing and ready to assemble it.

Today I decided to pull the baffle on a valve cover that was powder coated and low and behold:

The exact reason why you always want to clean it out and pull the baffle. As you can tell the media from sandblasting is still in the corners along with some build up. Easiest way to kill a brand new build in a few miles.

I'll have more pictures up tomorrow of the block and a better look at the Jay Racing alternator kit. I am expecting the rest of the fuel system and random nuts and bolts to show up next week.....then the meat and potatoes so to say. Also expecting an FP3794 as well :hellyeah:

Wanted to thank the guys at English Racing as well, for the outstanding work and excellent communication. Look forward to scheduling a trip down there to get the car dialed in on the dyno.

What did English Racing say about the Holset considering I know they like the FP turbo's?

I spoke with Lucas about it briefly and he didn't seem have a strong opinion about them one way or another. He said they have tuned them before and made decent numbers, but beyond that we really didn't converse much about it.

Few pictures of the engine on the stand. Expecting the last of the hardware to show up this week so I can complete it and mount the transmission.

Glad to see another fellow Washingtonian building a nice car! Build looks great, looking forward to updates!

Just a few more updates. Finally getting the rest of the longblock put together. Machined out the holes on the valve cover as well for the 8an boss fittings so I can weld them in tomorrow.

Coming down to the last few weeks before I get to turn this beast over and get it tuned.

hope you got the steel bracket from jay racing... I got the aluminum one at first and it broke after driving the car a few times.

Definitely got the steel bracket. Read horror stories on the aluminum. How has the steel one held up?

No issues with it at all so far.... cant wait to see more progress pics of your build. Hoping to do a lil work to my car and get it a lil faster this winter as well....

Just a few more updated pictures. Been slow going but getting there. The belt that jay racing sent me apparently is for the stock harmonic balancer pulley and not a fluidampr, so I need to pick up something that's a few inches longer. Also the bolt for the mount (lower a/c outboard side), is a bit too tall for the bracket, basically running into an issue where the alternator is rubbing on the bolt and can't pivot all the way down to be adjusted. I also had to drill out the two spacers a bit so the bolts would fit and not strip.

For the Hx40, it looks like if I'm going to run any kind of exhaust I'll need to cut and re-weld the dipstick tube bracket so it hugs the block. Otherwise there's no way a 3.5" exhaust would fit. I painted the valve cover wrinkle black and welded two 8an orb fittings onto it.

I also just received the throttle body back from Steve Monroe and looks perfect! Same day service and shipped as well. Slowly but surely is the way its going now. Today's project is to weld up a sump for my stock fuel tank and get it welded onto the tank as well.

For anyone thats been following, I appreciate it and hope this build inspires others and hopefully gives some direction to their own personal build.

Few pictures of the sump all welded up. All set up to weld the bungs and then attach to the stock fuel tank.
