Hello everyone. I finally have gotten myself a daily driver (vivid red 05 Lincoln LS, its a beauty) and so now I want to turbo my Eclipse. I have a turbo engine in it , just short the turbo. Now growing up on a farm, I have acces to a couple of diesel turbochargers that seem like they would be good for a 500 or so hp DSM. I realize theres more to a turbo swap than just bolting stuff on, I just want some information on the turbos and whether they would be good to use.

The first I have heard a bit about before, it's a Holset HY35 off of a 2001 Dodge Cummins. I read the Holset FAQ and it seems to be a plausible solution, just less popular than the HX. Correct me if i'm wrong.

The other however I can't find out much of anything about. It is a genuine Garrett M42. My grandpa had it installed by ATS on his 6.3L chevy diesel in the 80's so I know its not a recent Chinese fake that I have heard about. It looks to me about similar in size to the Holset. I am not sure about the AR numbers or anything at the moment but I can find out. If anyone has any experience with these turbos let me know what i'm getting into.
( I will be building the bottom and top end before I try putting on a turbo from a engine with three times the displacement as mine, don't worry)

The HY35 would be my choice. Oh, and dont ya love the LS? I have an 06 with all the options, touchscreen etc... Love that car.
Tips: Misfires are almost always bad COPs. Change all at once. Seal the COP cover with a good black rtv so water or condensation never gets in. Had mine for 15k miles now. It sat for 9 months so thats why i ran in to a couple small problems. Otherwise i have no complaints.

OP, I used to work for a heavy equipment company (ASCO) and I saw several turbos(hx35/40 ,I even got my hands on an older h2c) on the bigger front end loaders, backhoes, and some of the Telescoping forklifts that I had seen a lot of people use the same turbos on here. One of the smaller problems Id think some people don't want to run into is getting a turbo that requires fabrication to get to work, instead of simple bolt on parts...

Smack me after I ask...
but whats a COP?

I have a Holset HY35. I absolutely love it. 3rd gear, 2700rpm, turbo begins spooling and by roughly 4k-4.5krpm it can hit and hold 25psi all the way to my 8000rpm rev limit. More people go with the HX35 with the BEP housing since it basically makes the HX into an HY. Plus, HX (from what i've seen) are much easier to come by than HYs. Haven't really seen a lot of HYs around but it could just be my area.
