Hi my name is Jon and its time i start a build thread for my brothers car. He does not have time to keep one up to date and I do most of the planing anyways.

Some quick history of the car it was his daily driver back in 07-09. In between that time the ringland gave out and he had it rebuilt by a local he put about 3000 miles on it before a valve bunt in the reman head that was bought for it. At this point he wanted that he wanted to go faster and put a turbo on. So I helped him build a new motor it was 10.5 comp motor with stage 3 crower cams. we tuned it on ms2. I had just got the tune to ware was running good and told him one more pull and we would quit for the day mid pull i looked back and there was a little smoke. Pulled up to the house pulled out the plugs and one had the ceramic off of it. With in the next few days he lost interest in having it as a street car and said race car only on the next build .

With this in mind we slowly started to collect parts. For a full race engine and sold some of the parts we wouldn't be reusing. Then sum time pasted as he got married and I was away at school. In that time I was following the stock block cars and then thought that we should see what a stock block can do. I went to a Pick & Pull junkyard the engine came out of a 96 eclipse with 126k on it.

The goals for the car run 14.6 NA, get the weight down to 2000 with out driver and then put the turbo on and boost it till she blows. Turbo never made it on we did run 14.26 all motor with the stock bottom end I believe this makes us the fastest non turbo stock bottom end 420A.

Check out and like our facebook page untill i get the first few build updates and pics up

The name 8Bolt started with a joke at the tristate dsmtuners meet when my brother told a guy that the car had an 8 bolt engine in it he was shocked he then told him that we added an extra bolt to hold all the power before telling him that it was a 420A and the name just stuck.

It has allready gone 14.9 na on the stock bottom end I think it got at least 14.7 in it without boost.

Some of the weight reduction that we have done

I started playing with carbon fiber and made a few parts this winter i hope to make a hood mold and make a fiberglass hood

On the last build scene the Ac and power steering was removed I chucked the crank pulley up in the lathe and turned down the outer pulley.

A bunch more that was done and even more still to do. The weight at the shootout was 2095 without driver.

So sum quick updates we will be going to import faceoff September 29th in Columbus Oh. If your there stop by and chat with us. Also we put our 1600 cc injectors in for the swich to e85 but the pump around us shut down. I just started at a vp fuels dealer and we will be runing meth for this weekend if I can get my laptop working.

I also built sum more carbon fiber panels if anyone is intrested in the process I will post it up

Don't worry about urbansmoker trolling around. Probly has nothing better to do..its typical for the turbo guys to knock the 420. we've made good so far on this project and proven many who doubt wrong. We will continue to push forward and pull as much out of this motor as possible till the big motor is ready. This car likes to prove people wrong :)

Wow your on dsm tuners for once you must not have the kids? I think theres 14.8 if the air is good next weekend and more if I can get a computer to work and we go to the meth.

I was just looking on YouTube and found sum videos of the car

Just wanted to update this we went 14.264 at import faceoff over the weekend. The car also made two passes in the 14.3 range. Then the motor broke something in the bottom end I think it was because our flywheel was drilled when the shop balance the old built bottom end but I still have to disassemble it and inspect everything.

So how much do you have into the car? Cause a 4g63 would have gone 13's and not broken LOL

Ahem.

Your post are so lame sometimes, were you the kid that got beat up alot in high school so now you talk shit online? For one they weren't even running a turbo and the block Was pulled out of the junk yard. Hence the motor failure. If you want to talk down to someone go find a Honda or some shit. You shouldn't try to bash a dsm for trying to do something different on a DSM website.

First post says they wanted to put a turbo on it. And no. I didn't get beat up in high school. Thanks for asking

More power to him if he does t have one. I thought the point of this thread was to boost a stock block 420A and see where it went.

The goals for the car run 14.6 NA, get the weight down to 2000 with out driver and then put the turbo on and boost it till she blows.

Im Not trolling, it's a matter of fact that a boosted stock 420a motor is a ticking time bomb.

If you actually read everything you would know it's all n/a and the purpose of the thread is to push the stock block and internals at the track. And every comment you have made in this thread is total trolling dude. You have over 3000 post and I bet 500 are even helpful and positive. Which is pretty obvious with a red mark for your reputation.

Whats your interior look like? Gutted right?
Its not all gutted still has dash and center but not much elses still have carpet and head liner.

So close to 13's. ice the manifold between runs, get a ram air goin

There's 13s in it in just the 60ft it was about .15 slower than at the shootout.

We got it partially dissembled with the block still in car this is what we found. The pistion was cracked on the top from contact with the head.
pistioncracked.jpg

Cracked cylinder wall from the rod hitting into it
crackedwall.jpg

The bed plate broke in the back from the contact with the rod
blockbackhole.jpg

We think that the rod broke first the piston pin boss was also broke. I think it broke from the strain of hooking up on the burn out it was on the limiter at 8100 in second gear and hooked really hard.

We are also changing setups for next year so I have parts for sale in the classifieds.

Sorry for the lack of updates not much happening right now. We are going to skip over the stock block until boosted then we might go back to it. So here are some pictures of the new motor project. Like the teams facebook page to stay up to date on our progress. https://www.facebook.com/team8boltracing
blockfiller.jpg

Block is 1/2 filled for extra strength
boringblock.jpg

I'm doing most of the machine work my self on this some of it was done when I was at school at the University of Northwestern Ohio. This is the block on a rottler F7A boring bar.
hone.jpg

used a sunnen cv616 hone to get to the finished size
deckingblock.jpg
Then the deck was milled flat on a sunnen dcm with a CBN cutter.
crankonmagstands.jpg
In this picture the crankshaft is being magnetized and an oil with a UV die and iron particles suspended in it.
magcrank.jpg

Then a black light is shined on the crank any cracks will show up as a line and be easily visible

Sounds like an interesting project man ! Looks like your making good progress , but we all have setbacks haha. I love seeing people test new limits , keep it up!
