Hello Alll im proud to say that i will be the owner of a DMS on saturday (hopefully) cant wait to dive in and get the wheels turning and rubber burning (corney right)

98 gst fresh rebuilt motor with receipts. New pistons. Rings. Rods arp bolts. New crank. Bearing mains and rods. New head gasket. New head bolts. Turbo rebuilt no shaft play. Greddy intercooler piping. greddy bov. Engine bay cleaned up alot no ps. No ac pump lines or wiring. Single belt on pulley setup. 03 eclipse rims. 3in exhaust 3 pod a pillar gauges. Transmission was rebuilt a year ago 5k miles on it. New clutch. New tie rods and all drive train. Is there anything else you would add to this list to make sure im cool? What would be your first step after having the above completed?

I plan to get DSM LINK V3 from ECM. But is there any thing else to add or look for before purchase go fast parts?

Do maintenance first before performance parts.

This. Do basic stuff just to be sure. Oil, fluids, check plugs and wires, check motor mounts, lay a board or something under your car over night and check for leaks. Make sure everything is fixed before you start pressing the motor.

Sounds like the engine blew...i would definitely check compression. And if they replaced the head gasket, there's a good chance they replaced the timing belt...but make sure just in case. If not, ask when it was replaced last.

You're running a 98, which has a flashable ecu...might want to look into other tuning options.

Do all 98s have flashable ECUs?:confused:

For the turbo models, I believe so.

These are DSM ECUs that are Flashable.
1998 -> 7/97-5/98 MD346675(FWD) and MD346676(AWD)
1999 -> 6/98-4/99 MD359402(FWD) and MD359403(AWD)

I can honestly say that being able to interface with and control the ecu has been the best mod i've ever done...[/QUOTE]

Did you tune it yourself or did you go to a shop?

Man you guys are a great bunch here!!!! im really hoping there is nothing wrong the guy sent a vid and the belt was squealing really bad... he said that the belt was to big so ill be asking for an update video before i pick her up. He also replaced the accelerator cable... if and when i bring her home i will post pics...

With those ARPs should the stock motor be ok for about 350 who? I do plan to follow the upgrade path i just want to make sure i dont jump the gun .

Something that I have learned is take the time remove some screws look at the inside and the outside. Do a leak test on turbo system intercooler ect, just checkeck the hoses the wires and the gauges. Jacked myself out of one car on a blown return line. To sum it up compression, leak test, fluids, tune up, clean it all up look for the leaks dont forget about the cooling either... buddy blew his up right after he got it because the guy pinched a wire on the fan and he was too excited to notice. Got to get a feel for where the car runs at so you know when its messed...

Got it!!! Thanks Folks and if there is anything else you can think of feel free to let me know!! Im all about doing things right the first time so feel free to chime in. Until then ill be studying the forums.

Make sure you can pass emissions or apply for oBDII exemption because the car is a 98...Either way it is a huge pain in the ass if you wait til the last minute to decide what to do.

yes that is the first thing. is to pass emissions. The pick up is delayed tho. the seller ordered an accelerator cable and it has not arrived yet. So i have to wait til next saturday.

hopefully dude doesnt get cold feet, i had a talon all set up to buy in washington i was going to have my wife drive me and was going to drive it back to idaho, dude started ignoring my texts then after three days said its sold, he started ignoring friday, i was going to drive there the next saturday, wow that pissed me off.

believe it or not about a month later another dude did the exact same thing also from washington (different city) then a week later he said, "sorry can you come get it a had a buyer flake out on me" i bought a different talon thats what told him i guess karma wins some times :tease: sorry that brought up some bad memories i had to get it off my chest

i hope he doesnt back out. i was checking around for the part, no one has it locally. i have a 420a and im told my cable wont match the gst.. i wont buy or trade for something i cant see working.

Howdy and welcome! Saved my 1st AWD TSi Talon from parking lot death in May. Dumbass kid really messed it up. It's been the most tedious car project ever, but I have enjoyed every moment. After 4 months I can finally drive it on road... Take your time, do your research and good luck!
