OK, I have done nothing but read for the last week+

Every thread I read is he said she said with no apparent conclusion.

So this is what I want to know: Assuming the budget is around a grand, (because I don't have $4K to spend on Mullerized Ohlins), my options for a somewhat decent suspension are listed in the thread title. All the options i listed above (having just calculated all the prices about 30min ago), are as follows (based on buying everything new):

Evo Bilstein w/ Lowering springs-$1166 (Everything used on evom is like $700, I had mind as well spend a few hundred more for some new, non-rusted equipment)

1G/2G Konis with Ground Controls and misc (helper springs and such)-$1140

"Cheapo" coilovers like Meghan, D2, K Sport-$1000 to $1100

Need to know what I plan on doing? Mostly "spirited" highway driving, some 40-140 pulls (track only), maybe 1/4mi track a couple times a year, occasional twisties in the country a couple times a year. I don't DD the car, (pshhhh, who DD's a DSM anyway), so it doesn't need to feel like a caddy.

So basically what I am wondering is, what do you suggest, and why?

Please, only those that have had experience with one or all of these setups respond. Not trying to be a d bag, but I have read enough speculation over the last week+, I am only in search of facts.

I test drove a stock set up 1g and then bought a 1g with the blisteins in the front but stock springs. Night and day difference. I keep up with my friends evo x at the canyons with nothing else. Can't wait to swap out the rears and get lowering springs.

Man, really wish more people had chimed in here.

I am really leaning towards Evo Bilsteins ...

But are the coilovers in the $1000 area really worth it?

I built a set of 3000gt strut inserts. I have a write up on Bilstein HD. I also fab a set of Ground Control coils to fit the Bilsteins.
The cost was 500.00 for the strut inserts and about 100.00 for the steel.

I was thinking of going with Bilstein B8 Sports for the Evo MR, and I called ground control today and asked if they had anything that would work on those, and the guy said if I sent them the shocks/struts, they could make a kit for it.

The B8's are going to set me back $781, then another $430 for some GC's.

Thoughts? Anyway I could do this setup cheaper?

From my experience there is not one good off the shelf Chinese Coilover, I have Megan's they bounce all over even if you preload the springs as suggested by VIP Garage, prior to Megan's I had Tien's they are super bouncy. Both are very dangerous at elevated speeds over dips and transitions. I have two DSM's one I do DD and use as a test mule for various parts and the other is very built so I ordered Muellerized for it. The problem with the market for these cars is everyone offers a over sprung under dampened junk Coilover or lowering springs when the ONLY strut that can be lowered without damaging it is Koni. I tried KYB AGX and have blown every pair I have installed because they were not designed to be lowered. I was lucky to find the only new in the box left over OEM springs in the USA a few moths back and grabbed them. I used the OEM spring with Bielstien TS struts. The ride is great, I can drive over 120 over dips and never unsettle the car. I do however suggest sway bars and energy suspension bushings in every possible suspension location. The EVO struts sound very appealing since they are already shorter and the valving design is newer. From what I've read on muellerized web page all you have to do is drill new top mount holes and drill the lower control arm knuckle and shim it as illustrated. From what I understand the spring rate may need to softened considering the DSM is a lighter car but you could try the OEM set up as whole them go from there. I feel ya on the search for opinions on the ride for a proper Coilover or anything that is offered currently on the market, and from my experience its all garbage. I have personally called most manufactures about the current products and learn a lot from them because there is so much garbage for reviews on line. I hope this helped

No! Decent coilovers cost over $2200!

I have Koni's with H&R springs in my GVR-4 and I have Bilsteins' with Swift Springs in my Evo.

That said, for a DD, the Koni with the H&R springs is so much more comfortable than the setup on my Evo. That is with Poly bushings all around in my Galant. It just feels as if the Koni does a better job of controlling the spring. The Swift springs are progressive as are the H&R's but the Swift's are stiffer.

I will be getting the Koni/GC setup for my 2g GSX.

I had JIC FLT2's Muellerized on the 2g I had before and those were amazing! Too bad they are discontinued. They were double the price though.

Muellerized is making an exotic set of coil overs for my Supra too!
The longer ones are for the supra and the shorter ones are for the DSM!
