Which turbo would best fit my car. My supporting mods will be
190 fuel pump
560cc injectors
SAFC2
Boosting at least 18ib
fmic
Debating on arp studs

I hear lots opeople say that when they upgrade to a 16g from a 14b, they don't really feel any difference. On my old gst I had the same mods but with a 14b and I was boosting 18ib. Since I now own an awd dsm I wanna go bigger than my previous setup. With these mods will it be worth just buying a big 16g. Right now my car is all stock but like I said when I get either turbo I will install those mods.

A 16g will of course flow more air then the 14b. If you plan on more then 250hp I'd do a 16g. I do not know much, but my 16g is wayyy different then my buddy's 14b in his gst.

14b on lower boost would be better, small 16g, big 16g, evo 16g etc, will shine more in the higher boost range. All depends on your goals. With your current tuning capabilites 14b would be your best bet, your inj should be plenty for pump gas and 18psi.

Go with an Evo3 16g. You won't keep the car at 18psi for too long anyway and you have more available power when you crank it up. I've had both, there is definitely a noticeable difference!

The 14b starts blowing hot air at 18-20 psi, and I don't see a FMIC in your mods.

id stick with the 14b till you get all the proper mods done like fmic, link etc... max out what you got then its a simple upgrade to a 16g for more power and the cars already ready for it

What are your power goals? Best way to determine which turbo would be best.

I'd suggest a 16g though. Even at 18psi a 16g will feel a lot better than a 14b.

i wanna go for 300hp. im not trying to boost at the most 18psi, im just saying the least boost i will go to. for now im really trying to aim at 20psi or higher

If that's your power goal, stick with a 16g. You won't get quite that out of a DD 14b. But the 14b will be way more fun on a lower level.

forgot about that. yes i do have a fmic but the brand is unknown. im going to upgrade to a greddy fmic kit. i also want my turbo to last long so im not trying to fully max my turbo. my talon is also my dd and so i baby my car to death:thumb: i take great care for my car so im not always trying to race everytime and when i do ill only race at the most 3 times before i call it a night and let my car cool down.

Yeah when you said at least 18psi, I took it to mean no less than 18 and more than likely higher. :thumb: The 16g should serve you well and comfortably get you 300hp!

I have an eBay FMIC from cxracing that hasn't given me any problems. I normally run 35-38 psi on my HX35. I personally wouldn't worry too much about a no-name FMIC if you're not heat soaking it.

I say grab yourself a small 16g and enjoy. It's ideally the best of both worlds. The quicker spool of a 14b while having the ability to break well into the 300s when properly supported. It's a more efficient design than a normal big 16g( Although it doesn't have it's top end power. I suggest you dig up the compressor map for both so you can see what I mean). I run mine 21psi daily and couldn't be happier.

If you have the $ get a 16g and FMIC. Big difference over 18psi of boost.

Get the 16g spend the money once. Dont forget your wideband and some sort of tuner

Get a 16g. Buy it once. Like people have said you want to run 18psi now. The 16g will give you room to grow in the future.

The 16g evo3 is the perfect street turbo. It makes enough power to enjoy as a daily without really worrying breaking drivetrain parts.

From what I have read the evo3 16g is basically the same turbo but made with lighter materials making it more efficient.

Im running mid 13s at 106mph on my evo 3 on 19lbs of boost in a gst with full 3 inch exhaust, front mount, 660 injectors, safc, 255 pump, 2g mass air flow on street tires.

Here are the compressor maps. (ignore the red line...I couldn't get rid of it)
