I am at a complete loss..... my coil packs are about a month old and I just put on new wires tonight... my car is running like a putt putt tractor. All the injectors and cylinders are firing and getting spark. It is sparking on the screws that hold the coil pack to the bracket tho and I don't get the heck it's doing it. I've searched around and can't find anything helpful. Any ideas you guys? I can post a video of how it sounds (not the best quality video but it's somethin)

Did you try to put on the old packs? Did you make sure the coil pack was all the way on and tight?

the ground on the intake manifold is there. And when the car is running its arching all over the screws like a christmas tree down there(sparks grounding to the screws). The coil packs are on tight and don't have the old ones

The casing is cracked on your new coil pack. Swap in another and im sure the problem will go away

Why would it be cracked already?? What would cause it to crack?

Some arent sealed properly from the factory. Its just a factory defect that made it through?? I dont know. Are you 100000% sure its not your plug wires that just arent seating properly in the coil? That sounds way more likely but you say theyre new as well. One of the 2 is faulty, theres nothing else there thats seeing thousands of volts.

1. coil pack
2 plug wires

Simple as that. If your ground wasnt good it would have the opposite effect and not be as prone to arcing.

What would it do if it was a grounding issue? I got the coil packs from rock auto

If it was a grounding issue it wouldn't not want to arc, all I meant by its grounded in the plug is that there should be no current going threw the screws or mounting location so something in the coil is broke. The power is going to take the path of least resistance always, so if the coil is cracked it will always want to jump from the crack then go all the way threw wires and to tip of plug.

Get a new coil or make sure no wires are loose on it causing it to ground out to the intake.

make sure no wires are loose as in the back of the coil? What would the odds be of both them bad...guess I'll call and see what the warranty is, any suggestions what I shoild tell them? Also, should i not be driving my car or will it be ok for to drive for now?

I take it you wont be able to see if the coil pack is cracked? I'm looking at it in detail and see nothing.... I also just e-mailed the place got them from and see if can exchange them for a new one

The wires coming from the power transistor to the coil wont arc. Theyre only carrying 12v or so. No, with a high voltage arc chances are you wont be able to see the crack. The hi potting(or whatever the fill process is called0 could have been faulty and not solid enough. They should warranty it since its not arcing from the cable wells.

There sending one in the mail tomorrow. I got new ngk wires and cylinder 3 wire still lights up (looking at it in the dark) would a bad coil pack cause it to do that?

The WIRE arcs? Well yea it could still be the coil. Its just taking the path of least resistance. Thats how it works. But if youre arcing from the coil pack bolts to the coil and its not coming from the spark plug wells on the coil, then i still say its cracked or theres a path burned through it.

edit: listen, theyre sending you a new one. Give us an update when you have the new one installed. Or post a video of what its doing(in low light preferably)

I'll update you once the new one is on. But how do I know which one is the bad one...

Alrighty... I changed the coil packs and there is still slight sparks on the screws that hold the coil packs to the bracket. I tried zip ties on it once to see what it would do and it had slight sparks around the screw holes. I cant get a video of it you would have to see it in person. I'm tempted to just get a COP...I know its not necessary for a stock car and what not but it it would fix my problem I would be soooooo happy...I love this car but I'm just at a loss right now of what to do

Did you just replace one coil?

I would swap the whole coil pack out with a known good one.

Do not jut a COP setup!

This is a simple problem that will get fixed.

I did both and its still doing it....right now I'm completely lost on what to do. And if I go 80 for awhile or more (just to see why it does this) and it will really stumble and misfire unless push clutch in for awhile(I have read that happen to others so I'm not sure if this is related to why it's misfiring in general or what)

Did you try swapping the plug wires out again?

If they aren't contacting well inside the coil you could be leaking spark through the boot.

Did you swap just the two coils or the complete coil pack set up with a completely different one?

The plug wires are brand new NGK. I replaced both coils with brand new ones. I get new brp6es plugs(think that was the number) so I will gap those and put dielectric grease on my plug wires and see if that does anything. It will misfire bad at higher speed(every time it does it usually 3200 rpm or around 77 on up mph so i have to push my clutch in so it will idle for a bit then my car settles out) I have read of others having that problem so idk if that would be related to my misfire spark deal, which it probably is LOL. Tonight I'm going to take the coils out again from where they are and then run it to see more in detail as where it is sparking just to get a closer look. So then im not trying to glance through plug wires etc. This is the last thing i have to do to my car to make her run well.....i think...
