for a hobbyist you really can't beat longevity. I have had my 200sx machine now for about 4-5 months. Granted I haven't even burned through a full tank of argon yet. From my amateur experience, one you get the upgraded wp9 torch it's an awesome machine. I've done mild, stainless and aluminum.

I don't have experience welding tig on anything else and I don't use the machine 8 hours a day 5 days a week so you can take my opinion with that grain of salt. For someone that wants to learn and use it a moderate amount I can't recommend the unit enough especially at the price i got it for (was on back order at the time so the gave a discount)

Big thanks to gamble for pointing me in that direction to compare them.

Miller is my last name but I'm not into spending $3k for a machine I use maybe 3 times for the month.

That being said, even on my rock in the middle of the caribbean, if i need anything internally for this welder i am ####ed.....There is a miller dealer here who could sort out a blue box. That's a risk i took and so far it has paid off

If you are in the US where the shipping is cheap, the warranty is honored I don't see a problem with going for one of the "other guys" units

I guess why I get all fired up about the whole machine debate because I do this professionally and I have a lot of time and money invested in equipment and training. I know what quality is.

Yes a quality GTAW machine is expensive, but it is a professional piece of equipment.

It's like ebay turbos to me

So when something breaks, (no matter what welder It is something eventually fails) do you have to send it in to the manufacturer or is there someone local that can fix that brand?

It all depends. If it's under warranty then you take it to whoever will warranty it. If it's not warranty you can send it anywhere. Ideally the manufacture as they know the most about their own product. But other companies can and will fix other brand welders.

Anyone a big electronic nerd? Trying to figure out how to eliminate the pot on the foot pedal so you can adjust final current on the machine itself.

He means you still use the pedal as a potentiometer just instead of setting the amperage on the pedal you set it on the machine. So you dont have to bend over and pick up the pedal to change amperage or kneel on the ground or w/e .. and I was saying HE is a machine, like hes really good.

That's the old school way of doing it. Lots of welders used to be like that. Now it's just a less expensive way of doing it IMO.

If you want just straight current on and then off. You could change output to stick mode and just do scratch starts. Then when you want to eliminate the arc just snap your wrist away. That's how I usually weld pipe

How do you weld pop cans? I put mine in a C channel and it keeps arcing to the can and putting holes in it LOL

Take some heavy gauge wire. Strip it

Then put the ends of the wire into both cans openings. The clip the ground to that. So like a Y shape
