I'm surprised at the fact it took someone in the government 15 years to figure out it was blue. There's rainbow of colors for coolant, plenty of colors for oil. Why can't we have blue brake fluid? I wonder who came up with the idea that the brake fluid has to be amber or clear. Brake fluid changes were a breeze with ate super blue and the type 200. I guess not anymore

I was thinking about the exact same thing in regards to coolant and oil colors. I'm baffled as to why brake fluid has to be amber.

Now I guess I need to come up with some sort of ghetto hack around to color the brake fluid before I flush it. Not sure what will work and mix with the fluid but not cause any harm to the system.

The thought has crossed my mind, even before purchasing some of the Super Blue stuff. Just not sure if the food coloring would mix properly with the brake fluid because of different properties. Or if it'd do any harm to the braking system. I'm not sure I'd like to test it on my car :)

It was deemed illegal because it Uncle Sam requires brake fluid to be clear or amber in color.

I'm using RS683 these days. Won't miss the blue fluid at all, except maybe for the winter beater.
Prospeed RS683 Xtreme Performance Brake Fluid™ The world's highest performance DOT 4 Racing Brake Fluid!

Nice stats on that fluid but for the average nerd I'm cringing at 25 bucks a flush. I see (well, I saw anyway) a lot of ridiculous markups for ATE fluid (~$20) but I bought all mine at 12.99 a quart.

Seemed like the best bang for the buck fluid, maybe not quite the best for serious track use.

The idea behind it is DOT 3, 4, & 5.1 are clear/amber and DOT 5 is purple according to federal standards. It's this way so there's little chance of mixing the fluids.

As far as I've read into this, ATF's own legal team discovered this discrepancy and pulled the product voluntarily to cover themselves for any possible legal repercussions.

Cant believe its taken 15 years to find out its not following laws, just goes to show that when a product it introduced no one really bothers to check and just signs Off on it.

But on a side note I spoke to a chap who races and he said its not the best fluid to run anyway, its to hydroscopic and the breaking temps are not that great either,

so if any one is looking for a great break fluid you should search for millers 300 plus, been told this is really good and lasts along time and performs very well. Another that was brought up was a castrol fluid but I cannot remember that but I will check and link to it.

This is the castrol. https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/castrol-react-performance-dot-4-brake-fluid-cas-react

And the millers. https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/millers-300-plus-racing-brake-fluid-500ml-mill-rbf

Wouldn't be surprised if the blue coolant that came in my evo gets banned when they catch on.

Doubt it ever will, as there is green, blue, red, yellow and possibly more, all do something in there own way, I was thinking of converting to red but dont know if our system can handle it as its for cars like lambos and Ferraris and performance cars like that

Does toyotas contain dexcool? Mr2's run the lines all the way to the front and back so it would need more corrosion resistance properties id assume.

I dont now about what coolant does what but I will look for next year, but we can discuss this in another thread though, lets stay on track with the brake fluid.

Its my bad as I should never have asked the coolant question haha

Right now in my 1G I have green motor oil, blue brake fluid, red transmission fluid, pink gear oil, and pink coolant (Water Wetter and distilled water). ERMAHGERD I'M DOOMED!!!
