So far I have done a BLT and cured all boost leaks. I tracked the ticking to be either main or throw bearing. The PO says he took it to English and they reported a dead hole, but I couldn't see English not mentioning the rear turbo intake almost fully ripped in half.

I can't decide to keep this and sell the GSX or sell the 3kgt and build the GSX. One will be sold. There can only be one!

Sell the GSX or sell the GSX. Tough choice. LOL

Seriously though, I would DD the VR4 and retire the GSX to full race status.

Keep both, building a 3kgt is wicked expensive. Also change over to the 99 lifters when you get a chance, the stock ones will tick until you die. I've owned 2 stealth TT's, one of which I through a ton of money in on mods, I loved the car, but compared to the gsx its not worth it. Just get the 3kgt modded to be a street car (350-450awhp) and that is all, I wouldn't recommend going any further than that.

Buy a 93+ 25spline output shaft and transfercase, the 91's came with a 18 spline output shaft/transfercase, the splines on that shaft WILL strip if you push over around 300-350whp, they're notorious for that.
If I were you, I'd maybe toss 2 14b or 16g turbos on it, upgrade the injectors to 720's, get a 255 walbro, and use an ARC2 unit to tune with and call it day.

$1400... Not bad at all, and im jealous.

So I sold the Black VR4 for a good profit. Paid off my bills and came across another VR4. The deal was too good to pass up! The new VR4 was listed as a no start. I contacted the seller and got the story of how the car acted before he parked it, where is sat until it decided not to start. With the story he gave and knowing that 1st gen VR4s are prone to leaky ECU caps I drove almost all the way to Oregon. Mind you I live next to Canada. :D Did a quick check of the car (Checked timing, listed to it while he turned her over, etc.) I paid the man and had him make a bill of sale, stating that the motor is currently 100% in working condition. I then called a towing company, watched him hook it up and headed home.

When the car showed up, I pulled the ECU and sure enough, the C104 cap leaked and destroyed the IC105 board killing 3 ignition outputs. Also found out the ECU is a TECHTOM ECU. I sent the ECU over to the guys at ECM. It has been repaired and should be here Wednesday.

While I have been waiting I have been searching some information on the car. Found out that it's a rare VR4! :D The color is Nairobi Beige Metallic (S22). It was only offered in 1991 and only 81 of those VR4's were painted with Nairobi Beige Metallic.

The car has been tastefully modded, but oh how I wish she was left stock! On the plus side she only has 117xxx original miles, and no knock off parts.

P.S Sorry to disappoint again LOL.

Super duper extra sexy. I have always been curious about those VR-4s.

3/S is a pain to work on. I have been rebuilding one for two years. 3SX is a great source for OEM parts. IPS has good stuff, but they are quite slow to get you parts. Working on one of those makes a DSM seem like child's play!

Bet it does, good luck on your rebuild though. These cars are sexy. :thumb:

For those that have never seen a 3/S VR-4 engine bay. This is what you get to look forward to working on if you ever get one.

Yes, but after 5 minutes of removing hoses, there is a ton of room to do anything. I've built tons of these cars, they are not a difficult car to work on.

Assuming you do not need to work near the turbo's (especially the rear). There is also working on anything under the engine if the car still has the front Areo on. There is also changing spark plugs (in the rear). A timing job is a lot of fun with the jump rope it uses. I am not going to mention cracking open the tranmission on a Getrag. Finding parts is a pain (rear calipers for example). I will say that it is not difficult, more of a pain in the a$$. Mind you, difficulty level is also a relative term. Relative to a DSM, I would say it is more difficult.

Yes it is a little more work to tear into a 3s than a dsm. But, compared to any other v6 awd, twin turbo car, it's a breeze.
Rear plugs take 15-20 minutes, and a timing belt job takes about 2 hours.

As far as working on a w5mg1, or w6mg1 getrag, they both are simpler to tear down than a w5m33. Parts for them however, are about 3-5x more expensive than the mitsubishi transmission.

I was expecting to see Galant VR4, but this is nice too. Great price.

I was thinking the same thing... hahaha

but nonetheless, very nice car, at a killer deal.
