Hey guys! My name is Rane Buyser and I live in the pacific northwest. I'm extremely new to the DSM world in general. I have registered on DSMtuners and have the owners manuals already printed out and in a binder. I am buying a 1g AWD Tsi and couldn't be more excited! I am having it worked on by a high school friend of mine who has been building these since he was 15. She is definitely not pretty, yet. The clear coat is coming off on the hood and back hatch and there is one 6 inch scratch on the passenger door. Other than those minor cosmetics the body is straight and the interior is pretty immaculate. I have lots of options for seats and interior colors since he has 4 other cars he's pulling from. The tranny is brand new and all the fluids have been drained and will be put in new. He already has a rebuilt engine that he will be dropping in it very soon and it has a 16g turbo that I really like. I will be keeping it mostly stock except a few parts just for a little added performance but nothing special. This will be my daily driver so I want as little upkeep as possible. I know what to look for, overheating, always 3k oil changes, etc. The best part about it, he's going to let me be there for the some of the build so he can show me what is what and how everything works. This Saturday I will be pulling the current engine and disassembling it as a practice run since its stalled up. Once I get knowing my way around her I will eventually add some mods but until then she's gonna be mostly stock. I'm super excited for this project, even though I won't be doing it myself, it is still an excellent learning experience! When it's all said and done its gonna run me about $2500 with a nice set of snow tires. Any tips or suggestions?

I will be posting pictures of the process (hopefully) but here are some photos I took today of her current condition and the last picture is a recent build by the guy who's getting her sexy for me! -

Definaltly needs some love...Just make sure all your maintenance parts are fresh...get a wideband and dsm/eculink to make sure its running great..

Good luck with the car, hopefully your friend and your research here will help you keep er running long and strong.

Body is the least of your worries! if its straight and not rotting you can focus on getting the go fast parts working properly looks like a good buy!

welcome to the dsm world. First is first, not only do you have a dsm, but you the gsx, I'm jealous. Second, it really doesnt matter how it looks right now, what matters is getting it to run right, then you can focus on the looks. third, these cars look beautiful just the way they are, I got mine with no engine and no front bumper, and put the engine first, then I put a bumper and fenders on it.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I'm so anxious to get working on it but I'm not gonna rush it at all. Another note that I forgot to mention is that it has LSD in the rear which I guess is uncommon in the AWD so that makes me even more stoked.
