So I found this ’98 Eclipse GS (unfortunately, would prefer a GST or GSX), automatic (even more unfortunately), but the car is in immaculate shape with only 61k miles. Black, but the paint is in great shape. The proverbial “old lady” owner who bought it new, and has kept it in a garage and only driven it as her “fun” car. Decently equipped with a sunroof and cloth interior. Has one dent in the roof which is easily fixed. Also appears to have a slight valve cover leak, but they pretty much all do that.
It would likely be driven by one of my kids on a regular basis. They are asking $5500, but I believe I can do better. Should I go for it? I find the automatics incredibly slow, and that is my one hesitation.

That really depends on how long your kid has been driving. I wouldn't spend that much on a car for my daughter unless she has more than couple years under here belt.
