Well, it's been a long time coming and it finally happened....at the shootout!
After reclaiming the title at last years shootout with a [email protected] the car sat idle for most of the year. Took it out on the streets every now and again while I was accumulating parts. Couple weeks before the shootout I knew everything was going to be in, so it was time to get it ready.
Car came off the dyno thursday about 3 hours before we left for ohio. Made 572hp and 426tq, spiking 37 psi but leveling off up top at about 34 and lived to die that coming weekend.
Dropped the car off the trailer at Buschurs for the show. After words, drove it to the track to watch the test and tune. Did a quick 2-3 pull just to see how it felt and to make sure it went straight and stopped...a lot had changed. It did as I'd hoped and was faster than ever. Got out of the car shaking, it had been a while since I'd felt that in my own car. I knew all it had to do was stay together and it'd be a walk in the park.
Saturday was the day. Dropped the car and did a quick once over just to make sure everything was in line. Then the waiting game started..I grew more and more frustrated as the day went on, waiting for them to call test and tune, then when they did I'd go up only to be turned around because the lane filled up instantly. Finally after being there for over 10 hours I got in the lane, staged the car and it happened. 9.91@144
That was it, I'd done it. The pass felt like complete garbage...pedaling, slow shifting and banging the limiter...but it had happened and I was completely elated, and it was only 31psi to boot. Packed it up and saved it for tomorrow.
Sunday was more of the same, waiting and waiting some more. Got two more passes in. The first, car came out great, banged second and nothing...the car just shut off. Computer was being stupid and couldnt get it to start logging before the pass, I have no idea what happened. Second pass it went 9.92@146, and it didn't skip a beat. Backed it up, official 9 second car! What an amazing experience, one that will never truly never be forgotten and was so happy to have done it at the shootout. All I really wanted was to be first, no one can ever take that from me. I surly do welcome everyone to come after me though, don't fear the 7bolt...

The car drove on and off the trailer, which was a feat in itself. Clearly, as seen in the video, I've left a lot on the table. I'll be making a few changes in the near future and having another go at it at the local track.
The biggest thanks goes to everyone here at STM...Without all of you I wouldn't be where I am today. You are my family, my team and my friends. The last 6.5 years have been great, I look forward to many more...
Mr Will Stanton for pushing me and becoming a good friend in the mean time. Along with all my other friends that have been nothing but supportive over the years.
Tia, cause you're the best!
All the great companies that have their parts on my car, including but not limited to:
FIC
AEM
Drive Shaft Shop
Garrett
Tial
Jon @ TRE
Clutchmasters
Kelford
TCE brakes
JMF
Frontline fab
And finally, to everyone that said it couldn't be done....
Original motor that came with the car, just over 100k miles, head and oil pan have never been off ( yes, composite gasket ), ARP studs/springs and retainers/cams...nothing else, balance shafts and all.
It's gotta go at some point and I'm going to find that point. When it finally goes I will tare it down most likely at the track if time allows, until then it's still on.
Thanks for looking,
-Cory Bowers
